On it!, March 2, 2000
This review is from: Underground Tapes (Audio CD)
This kid is on it! The long awaited full-length from Saukrates will have your head nodding so much it's liable to fall off. Saukrates combines the dopest, truest beats with the illest and smoothest lyrical style to hit your ear in a long time. His professional delivery and mastery of the art make him a prime candidate for the riches the sick side of this industry has to offer, and after one listen to this classic you'll be begging Saukrates not to sell out. This album is so good Saukrates manages to rescue the careers of notrious sell-outs due to their guest appearances on this CD. I almost refused to listen to it when I saw that Helta Skelta (aka money chasin fools claiming to rep the unda) appeared on a track. Xzbibit's on another as is Pharoah Monche, whose recent solo album has left a sour taste in the mouth of true heads who understand the difference between work and pleasure, money and love. Saukrates says he's not sure, and that has me believing he'll be the next to chase the papers. The moral? Enjoy Saukrates while his material is still pure, undaground, ill hip hop made for you and me, and not all them.

Saukrates- Vol 1- Underground Tapes, March 1, 2003
This review is from: Underground Tapes (Audio CD)
In 1999 Canadian MC Saukrates dropped his second album "Vol.1 Undeground Tapes" and blessed hiphop with some nice music. Guest appearances on this album come from Common, Xzhbit, Pharoahe Monch, Choclair, Jully Black, Heltah Skeltah, Masta Ace & O.C. Saukrates had previously been known by some of the singles he had dropped, this album though really caught the eye of the right people, and thats why Saukrates is signed to Def Jam with an album upcoming soon. This album flows nicely from start to finish, favourite tracks of mine include "Money or Love" , "Play Dis" feat. Common, the banging "Fineline", "Innovations" feat. Pharoahe Monch and "Check for Me". Things can only get better for this talented Toronto MC, look forward to hearing him come out, might be the first real Canadian MC to blow on the N.A hiphop scene. One things for sure though, he has released many underground classics like "Hate Runs Deep", and continues to do so. Vol. 1 Underground Tapes a gem, definetly worth having in the collection.

Hip-Hop at its finest, November 6, 1999
This review is from: Underground Tapes (Audio CD)
There is no doubt that Saukrates is one of the illest underground emcees out there. It's the return of hip-hop as we know it, straight from Canada!
