5.0 out of 5 stars Nice variant of 11, cool TARDIS...and the best Amy Pond yet!, February 7, 2011

This review is from: Underground Toys Doctor Who Christmas Adventure Set (Toy)
Ah, the Christmas Adventure Set. I managed to pick this up a week or so ago, and, at first....I was a bit mystified about it. By all purposes, it looked like two figures and a re-re vamped 11th Doctor Flight Control Tardis...with clear windows....minus the strange blacked out ones that didn't quite fit with the earlier incarnation. But, with a bit more reading....well, I'll get into that when I get into the review.

Let's start with the figures. The Doctor...well...he looks like Matt Smith. That seems kind of obvious, but for anyone out there who collects figures, you know that simply isn't the case. He's well done. His jacket has an odd light stripe in it...but it's supposed to be a variant. Points for trying.

Next up is Amy Pond. To me, she's the gem of the set. I think I can go on record as saying that she's possibly the best female figure I've seen come out of the Doctor Who line. I keep thinking back to Rose figures...they never really did Billie Piper justice. This one works. At one time, I nearly picked up the first Amy figure..but something about her seemed...well...blocky to me. This version seems more sculpted and fluid. The police costume is a nice touch. I keep expecting to see Rory bursting out of the TARDIS in a gladiator costume.

Well, let's get to the centerpiece of the set...the TARDIS. As I previously mentioned, it's a redux of the 11th Doctor's Flight Control Tardis...without the light up and flight control works. I'm sure you'll read about the little gripes folks have with this but I'm not going to get into it. I like it. It's a nice, more television-accurate version.

All in all....it's a beauty of a set. Pick it up, and buy a fez and a stetson while you're at it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's Scrooge?, January 23, 2011
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Underground Toys Doctor Who Christmas Adventure Set (Toy)
The photo here really doesn't do this set justice! There's a pretty good amount of detail on these toys, and the joints are much less ugly and obvious than in the photo. The only ones that really stand out are Amy's knees. The TARDIS doesn't feel cheap at all; it's got a good weight and a 'wooden' texture to it. It looks like it's the same model used for an electronic TARDIS, with the electronic bits sealed off (there's a button on the floor inside, a sealed closed spot on the back for a battery, a flat spot on the bottom where an on/off switch could be, and a speaker). I'm currently debating on pulling the battery case off to see if there's any electronic bits left inside...

I've only really got 1 small complaint:
Why these two? There's already a few Amy + Doctor figures out, but no Abigail, no Kazran (young, teen, or old) so why not those two instead? I'd love a Michael Gambon action figure! And Amy was barely in the Christmas episode at all...

It's the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond with a Tardis! For a Dr. Who fan this is an awesome gift for them or just to buy for yourself!

I really have nothing more to place than what other reviewers have detailed. However there is alot of negative comments about the Matt Smiths jacket having "red lines" and personally I think the coat is great. I prefer the varient over the regular and it looks great. Good stuff.

I was pleasantly surprised to find such quality toy, the picture does not reflect the accurate details and just the care with which is made!!! Very happy with it, can't wait until the kids open it up!

Toy was purchased as a gift. I am very happy with it from that standpoint. I will need to talk to my 13 year old granddaughter to answer any other questions.
