4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for the chess player., December 16, 2009
I owned this book as a teenager when I was starting to get hooked on chess. I loved it and read it a number of times. I have applied some of the ideas presented in it and I believe that it has improved my game in some ways.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for all OTB players!, October 23, 2009
By

In this day and age, most casual chess players compete against computer programs, or against other people via the Internet. This book harks back to the days when two players met at someone's home or in a club as the only way to find friendly competition. The psychological maneuvering in these over-the-board (OTB) encounters can be almost as important as the moves on the board in determining victory and defeat.

As the book progresses, we learn more elaborate and hilarious measures for gaining an advantage in the game, without actually resorting to practice or analysis of positions. We start with some simple suggestions on how to gain a pawn, or maybe a slight positional advantage. Then, tougher measures are required to pick up a minor piece or a rook. Finally, for those in a desperate situation and willing to make preparations ahead of time, the ultimate ploy can extract a sudden resignation from your opponent as he races from your house.

I don't want to give away any of these nuggets, so get the book for yourself, and enjoy!
