2.0 out of 5 stars losing steam, repeating self
This book is inexpensive, so I don't have a huge bone to pick with Pilkey regarding repetition, but this one is weak compared to the first two in the series, which I read to my daughter often. SHE likes volume three, of course, but to the parents out there brave enough to read such stuff to their kids, get the first two first, because then you can laugh with your kids,...

'Captain Underpants' lives to see another day ORFORDVILLE, Wis. - Dav Pilkey's book, Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies From Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds), came under scrutiny after a student's parents asked that it be reviewed. The story's main characters ridicule and disobey their school principal, bury some dead lunch ladies by the school and write comic books riddled with misspellings, among other things. The Parkview School District committee voted 5-0 to keep the book in the school's library. The district's curriculum director said children probably would be best served if someone read or discussed the book with them to point out misspellings and intolerance issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!! Absolutely fabulous work!!!, October 28, 1999
This review is from: Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds) (Paperback)
The first time my son, Edward, brought home the first novel, I thought "oh no, another book I will have to hide" because I thought the content would be inappropriate. But he was laughing so hard that I got curious. So I started reading it then I was laughing hard! In fact, so hard that I woke up everyone else in the house because I was sneaking and reading it at night! When I saw what this book did for my son's interest in reading, I couldn't wait for the sequel. In fact, I bought this and the third novel last night after a parent-teacher's conference. So Edward has allowed me to read this one while he reads the other. This book is just as hilarious as the first. This is definitely the way to get kids reading.

I say hooray for Dav Pilkey and thank him for being a boost to my son's interest in reading! Reading is only fun when you enjoy the content and I definitely enjoy having Dav's books for my son and myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY SON JUST LOVES ALL THE CPTN. UNDERPANTS BOOKS..., March 29, 2000
This review is from: Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds) (Paperback)
I think that there should be more funny books for children. Children like to laugh just as much, if not more, than adults. And laugh he does! The other thing I like about these books is that he enjoys them so much that he was able to make a transition into "chapter" books painlessly...Which prior to that he found intimidating A+ for captain underpants!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Underpants extravaganza, November 24, 2001
This review is from: Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space (and the Subsequent Assault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds) (Paperback)
"Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies from Outer Space" is a further installment in this clever series of books by Dav Pilkey. Captain U is a spoofish superhero character not unlike the Tick or the Powerpuff Girls. Pilkey combines subversive humor with engaging cartoony illustrations.

Captain U's true identity is that of an elementary school principal. But after being hypnotized by unruly fourth graders George and Harold, he acquires his superhero persona. Captain Underpants is probably the silliest spoof superhero yet; he runs around wearing no more than his underpants (hence the name) and a cape. In this installment, the good captain faces a trio of devious extraterrestrial fiends.

Much like the popular TV show "The Simpsons," this book mercilessly satirizes school and authority figures. Pilkey includes many clever touches, such as the incorporation of comic books allegedly written by George and Harold, as well as a "Flip-o-Rama" gimmick by which the reader can manually animate key action sequences. Overall, a lot of fun.

Captain Underpants and the Invasion of the Incredibly Naughty Cafeteria Ladies From Outer Space (and the Subsequent Asault of the Equally Evil Lunchroom Zombie Nerds
By
Dav Pilkey

This book is about three aliens who try to take over the world. The aliens are Zort, Klax, and Jennifer. The aliens pretend that they are lunch ladies. They go to work in the cafeteria of a small, Midwestern elementary school. These new lunch ladies begin serving strange things to the kids in the school and the new food begins to make the kids look and act strange.
George and Harold who are students at the school, notice that something weird is going on and they decide to investigate. They begin spying on the lunch ladies and they suspect that they are aliens. The tell their principal about what they think is going on, but he doesnt believe them. They take him to investigate. When they get to the cafeteria the lunch ladies grab Harold. He tries to get away, and he ends up pulling off the lunch ladies gloves. They all see the ladies have tentacles not hands. Accidentally, one of the lunch ladies snaps her tentacles that made the principal turn into Captain Underpants. The rest of the story is about how Captain Underpants battles the evil aliens.
I think the author wrote the book because he has a crazy imagination and he wanted to share it with others. He also wanted to have his readers use their imaginations and be entertained. This book makes you laugh.
I liked the book because it was very funny. The events were exciting, too. The author was really good at giving a lot of descriptions. I could see, in my head, what was happening. I thought Dav Pilkey did an especially good job at describing the villains.
I would recommend this book for others to read. Im sure anyone would have a good time reading it. I think this would be a good book for kids who are in second or third grade.

This book is really funny! It's about when Captain Underpants has to save the world from alien cafeteria ladies turning kids into zombie slaves. It has lots of illustrations that are funny, and it has flip-o-rama and comics as well. If you liked this book, be sure to look for Captain Underpants, Talking Toilets, Professor Pippy P. Poopypants, Wedgie Woman, and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars For the kids - it helps them love reading, April 5, 2000

Dav Pilkey has hit the 1st & 2nd grader funny bone spot on (at least for boys). This may or may not appeal to parents (it doesn't appeal to me) but it's harmless, and there are relatively few books for 1st/2nd graders' reading level that they really like, so I'm happy that my son has something he likes to read on his own, finds funny, and can share with friends. It certainly beats the TV!

My son also likes others, like Harry Potter books, which I DO find interesting, but those are harder for him to read and he wants them read to him. So, whether YOU like them or not, buy the Captn U. books for your kid.

I haven't actually read this book but my 2nd grader got the book on a Saturday and by Monday was beginning his 3rd read of it. He loved the first 2 Captain Underpants too but told me that this was the funniest of the three. He couldn't help but to read excerpts aloud to me.

they'd be hilarious.

When faced with the nighttime reading ritual, I tremble. What will she come up with tonight? Unfortunately, things that interest a 6 year old, often have the opposite effect on an 30 year old.

But, not good ole Captain Underpants! Gratuitous violence, and potty humor are so often overlooked for their comedic value in this day and age of protecting spotted owls, and learning about multi-culturalism. Don't get me wrong, we read our share of eco friendly tales about children from other countries, but it isn't as FUN as two boys causing their principle to strip down to his skivvies and save the earth from alien lunch ladies trying to turn the students into zombies!

My daughter giggles, I giggle. We guffaw, and snork. Captain Underpants is seriously funny! And, for all its purposeful "naughtiness" it's still parent friendly.Tra-la-la!

Captain underpants is the greatest hero ever. I've been reading his books since they first came out. I'm 13 now and i still love them even though it says it's best for 8-12 this one is really funny. The flip-o-rama makes it all the better
