Active noise cancellation is one of these nifty ideas that can be quickly described and understood using high school physics. And in the last 10 years, there have been more products out on in the marketplace, that apply this idea.
But if you want to delve deeper into the field, this book will give an appreciation of the complexity. Hansen takes you beyond a simple brochureware explanation. The subject combines electronics and mechanics, along with control systems. The discussion is sophisticated. Hopefully, the maths won't deter you. Though it can be formidable, even to someone with an undergraduate degree in engineering or the physical sciences. He also gives a good discussion of the various commercial usages.
