I knew the author when he was in the bay area....I've heard from the children that were in his groups....He is real, honest and loving and the children see this and feel this...This book I use to educate my parents on the importance of educating their children around issues of addiction and the importance of letting go of secrets... It has been a great tool to educate incarcerated men and women on the effects of their disease on themselves and their children. They don't seem so much to care about themselves, but they do care about their children. This book has been a great motivator for parents to do something about their addiction.

I read the one star review and couldn't disagree more. This is an amazing book, with great insight into the lives of children who've been broken, devastated, and scarred by alcoholism/addiction. It appears that the one star reviewer was looking for a by-the-numbers, laying-hands-on kind of instruction manual for his/her own children. There is no such thing when dealing with children who've learned not to trust, talk, or feel; there is no one size fits all book that can do this work.

Jerry Moe is one of the most incredible people I've ever met. To be in his presence as he talks about "his kids" is something hard to capture in words. All of us listening, most of us battle hardened pilots and airline professionals, had tears in our eyes - as did he - while he talked about them. This book is Jerry's language in written form and I found myself wiping my eyes a number of times as I made my way through it.

I defy you to buy the book, read it, and not feel it in your heart. For people who think kids are too young, too distracted, and too "anything" not to have been radically affected in an alcoholic/addicted home, this is a MUST READ book.

Jerry works his magic with these kids who somehow instinctively sense that he loves them and cares about each and every one of them; that they can share their innermost hidden secrets because they trust him. Watch the individual journeys as they move from the demons within: incredible pain, fear, secrecy, defiance, and resistance, to freedom, and the discoveries that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Well done, Jerry....very, very well done!

Format: Paperback
A vital book for understanding the effects that addiction can have on the children, who are so often forgotton amongst the chaos of the disease. Heart touching stories paint a realistic view of what occurs in families who are plagued with alcohol and drug addiction. Easy to read. Highly recommended.
