This book is great! Whats different from any other book on the market, that I've purchased or seen, is that it has 72 videos for quick reference on just about any topic in photoshop! All practice images, quizzes, and projects are included. All very well organized. Making learning a snap!

The book, though smaller than most photoshop books (more video and less reading which is a better way to learn this program--in my opinion!!), covers all topics, and expounds on the video or covers non video areas whichever the author decided was most important to the reader. I found it to be just the right balance! Follow along projects in each chapter, using included images on DVD, helped to bolster and apply knowledge on each subject.

The quiz on each chapter, and 10 bonus exercises, were a nice additional touch for learning and applying what you know to real world applications!

After working through this book, I feel I have a strong mastery of a complex but powerful program (CS5) that will help me in my photography business for years to come!!!!

Rather than being a flashy "how to" Photoshop book, Richard Harrington's book explains important Photoshop tools, concepts, and functions in a clear and concise manner with practice files that reinforce learning in a useful way. I enjoy reading about the history and development of certain tools - helps me understand them more. There is also lots of related information that one needs to use Photoshop, like how to best capture images from various sources. It's organized and presented so well that when I need help with a particular tool, I can find information quickly. I've just begun to harvest the wealth of information in this book, and keep it by my computer at all times.

Highly recommend this book to introduce you to Photoshop. Richard's simple and direct approach to teaching you the fundamentals provides a great foundation for future learning and more advanced concepts. If you are just starting out learning Photoshop, this is an excellent book.

If you use Photoshop CS5 this is a must have book. Richard does a great job of breaking the book down into concise, easy to find and follow skills. He covers what you need to know to be able to get in and get out. This book is already dog-eared sitting permanently next to my computer. As I spend most of my time in Lightroom; only going into CS5 when necessary this book is a great reference. Well worth the money.

After attending several extremely well taught classes by Mr. Harrington at NAB 2010, I ordered this book. I needed to get up to speed in a hurry in Photoshop, and I was not disappointed.
Mr. Harrington explains Photoshop's features in easy to understand language using easy to follow examples, but without making you feel like like your IQ matches your shoe size.

The book covered all aspects I needed to know, and yes, while it doesn't - and couldn't - cover everything, it explained all the different features I needed to know. It's also a great book for going back and using as a reference.
I don't think the author meant this book to be a complete Photoshop Bible, rather, a quick and efficient way to learn the most important, and most often used features. And that this book accomplishes outstandingly well.
I have been very impressed with the author's other books and also online tutorials, and have watched many of his tutorials, and just ordered yet another new title that he just came out with.

I think it is very important to read the description of each book you are planning to purchase - so that you can match your expectations with the content of the book. This author is very up front with his synopsis, and makes it easy to choose.

Best book I have bought yet for learning Photoshop, form the basics to more complicated procedures. The included DVD is a big plus also. Richard Harrington has a way of presenting his topic in a very understandable manner in both the book and DVD. I believe CS4 users would also find this book very helpful. Highly recommended.

I've never read a book with such simple explaination. Richard has put his full experience to convey the details to the reader> Needless to mention the video lessons included with the book make things easier than you may think. Watch the video first and then read it in the book and this way you will understand what the auther is teaching you.
In a month or less you will find yourseld with at least an intermediate level as a photoshop uuser.

I attended a free Photoshop seminar by the author and I liked his teaching style, and he seemed very knowledgeable. I wanted to learn Photoshop to help take my photography to the next level, and I am finding this book to be a straightforward and concise but effective way to do. I like the format of the book and especially the video tutorials on the DVD.

Watching several of Harrington's video tutorials has wetted my appetite to buy CS5 and his book. If the book follows his web tutorials, it's a 5-star product.

This provides both video training sessions and hands-on exercises. At least for me, this provided me with a perfect combination for learning. I can hear about the subject and then walk through the sctual steps.
