About the Author
Charles Zastrow, MSW and Ph.D., is Professor in the Social Work Department, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He has worked as a practitioner in a variety of public and private social welfare agencies, has chaired fourteen social work accreditation site visit teams for the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). He recently was, for six years, a member of the Commission on Accreditation of CSWE. He is currently a member of the Commission on Educational Policy of CSWE, and is a member of the Publications Council of CSWE. He is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups, the National Association of Social Workers, the Council on Social Work Education, and NASW Register of Clinical Social Workers. He is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin. In addition to UNDERSTANDING HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT (with Dr. Karen Kirst-Ashman), he has written several other books including the following textbooks: INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL WORK AND SOCIAL WELFARE (Eighth Edition), THE PRACTICE OF SOCIAL WORK (Seventh Edition), SOCIAL WORK WITH GROUPS: A COMPREHENSIVE WORKBOOK (Sixth Edition).
Karen K. Kirst-Ashman is a full professor and former chairperson in the Social Work Department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She earned her BSW degree in 1972 and MSSW degree in 1973 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her Ph.D. in Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of six social work textbooks, numerous publications, articles, and reviews on social work and women's issues and has served as a consulting editor on many social work journals. She was a board member of the CSWE from 1998 through 2001 and has served as a member of several CSWE accreditation site teams. Kirst-Ashman is certified as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin.
