4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile elementary text.
This book covers a lot of ground, so if it starts with some awfully basic stuff, that's okay. The only real complaint that I have is that the authors are a bit too rah-rah for my taste when discussing marketing, but then, that's probably par for the course; everybody who is into marketing tends to go overboard on the bubbly, fake energy. That, and the fact that they...

2.0 out of 5 stars Another edition change?
As a college professor, it upsets me when book authors and publishers change editions so frequently. There is a new editon of this book coming out (perhaps it already has). C'mon-how much about basic business has since 2001? It seems a ploy to not only charge students more money (and disallow them to buy a used edition) and force professors to change the lesson plans...

As a college professor, it upsets me when book authors and publishers change editions so frequently. There is a new editon of this book coming out (perhaps it already has). C'mon-how much about basic business has since 2001? It seems a ploy to not only charge students more money (and disallow them to buy a used edition) and force professors to change the lesson plans for the course-based on changes in a couple of chapters.

The book, however, is well written and provides good examples and case studies.

2.0 out of 5 stars Priority should be teaching, not exploiting students., December 11, 2003
By
Good organization and readability does not excuse publishers from using their business knowlege to stick it to students. The "description" here doesn't do anything to change that impression. Perhaps this book should have been called "How to Make a Killing in Academic Book Sales" Obviously book buying is a new hazing rite for American students. "Yes, sir, may I have another!"

I was told I would get the cd rom that comes with this book and I didn't get it. Two weeks ago I gave Katie Verhalen the opportunity to fix this problem by emailing her through this site, I got no response. I'm still waiting for what was promised: The cd that goes with the book!

That, and the fact that they demonstrate an astounding lack of understanding of basic arithmetic when they assert that "while saving 2% by paying a bill early may not sound like much, doing it over the course of a year will save you 24%".

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternative for the 9th Edition, September 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Understanding Business (Paperback)
This international edition is exactly the same as the original 9th edition. I would recommend it to any student who is looking for a cheaper alternative. I have been using this book for my class and haven't had any problems with it. I consider this an awesome find since it cost much less than buying the 9th edition from my school's bookstore.

Book arrived in very good condition, better than expected. Despite a personal issue, the seller managed to get this item to me before other items I ordered the same day. Bravo!

5.0 out of 5 stars Past Edition Saved Lots of Money, October 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was in great condition and shipped speedily. The class requirement was the 8th edition, but the 7th edition has worked fine so far in my business class at college.

This review is from: Understanding Business (Paperback)
I bought this book for my daughter for a college class on the 28th of August and paid the extra money for it to be expedited so she would have it in time for her first assignments. We never received the book and had to withdraw her from her class because she got so far behind in the week we waited. My credit card was charged for both the fee for the book as well as the expedite fee. It's really hard to find any one to talk to. The only contact I have had with anyone from Amazon.com is this request for a review so I am taking the time to vent my disapproval over this transaction.
