Book Description

December 1, 1997 Strategic Technology Series
This book is an in-depth look at a hot new Windows-based technology--thin clients that reduce total cost of ownership by moving applications and administrative functions from the desktop to the server. This radical technology lets machines in the "dumb terminal" category run sophisticated Windows software, minus the costs and headaches of traditional PCs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but influenced by Microsoft, April 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Understanding Thin Client/Server Computing (Strategic Technology Series) (Paperback)
My context is as a student researching Thin Client computing. This book provides excellent coverage of Winframe. However, it is very Microsoft-centric with comments on migrating from "legacy" Unix systems to NT. YMMV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super explanation of how and why one should use WinFrame, November 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Understanding Thin Client/Server Computing (Strategic Technology Series) (Paperback)
Because of this book we were able to make the decision to implement the system easier. After implementation in our college we have used this book as our instructional text both for students and systems operators.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book gave a good understanding of the Citrix technology, July 13, 1998
This review is from: Understanding Thin Client/Server Computing (Strategic Technology Series) (Paperback)
After reading this book, I felt confident in recommending the Citrix approach for my companies increasing need for reliable, centralized data access. This book did a good job of describing the technology and what was involved from both hardware and personnel resources. It was a little light in describing any of the competing technologies that exist.

If you are thinking about implementing Citrix's WinFrame product, I would strongly recommending this book as a must read. Even if you are having a consultant perform the installation, you will be better equipped to help with the management responsibilities that will be required in a project of this size and importance.
