5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource, even beyond class
First of all, I am fascinated by nutrition. It's a pretty cool thing to know how food contributes to our everyday existence. With that in mind, this book is a fantastic nutrition resource and reference. I've read a lot of extracurricular nutrition guides over the years and was under the impression I had a pretty good handle on the concepts. Nope. I felt like an...

3.0 out of 5 stars A 3 star rating with reservations
I had to give this book a 3 star rating for the ease of information it contains concerning the enzymatic pathways used by each vitamin or mineral. The book is also easy to read. Having said that however, this book is typical American Dietetic Association Clap Trap. I have both the 6th and 7th Editions of this book and with only small qualifications in the 7th edition,...

I had to give this book a 3 star rating for the ease of information it contains concerning the enzymatic pathways used by each vitamin or mineral. The book is also easy to read. Having said that however, this book is typical American Dietetic Association Clap Trap. I have both the 6th and 7th Editions of this book and with only small qualifications in the 7th edition, both books endorse aspartame and condemn stevia, regurgitate standard government misinformation about nutrition, knock dietary supplements, and actually list Steven Barrett's Quackwatch site as a reliable source of information on what is quackery and what is not! The chapters on Cancer and HIV and Nutrition are virtually useless. If you do buy this book for the basic information it contains on metabolic pathways and co-enzyme structures, then do yourself a favor and also get "Clinical Nutrition, A Functional Approach", put out by the Institute for Functional Medicine, and "The Real Vitamin and Mineral Book", by Shari Lieberman, among others. Find out the Real Cutting Edge science of Nutrition and why standard American Dietetic Association Fare with their Corrupt Corporate sponsors calling the shots in Government Nutrition information is not reliable.

Nope. I felt like an amateur once I got into this book. There is so much more to learn and this book lays it out into a very "digestible" format.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Nutrition Class, March 19, 2006
This review is from: Understanding Normal and Clinical Nutrition (with 4 month InfoTrac Subscription ) (Hardcover)
I actually enjoy reading this book for class. Especially since the chapters are written in an informative yet easy to understand way. On the inside cover there is a quick guide to the DV of minerals and other supplements that has come in handy outside of class. Worth the money if you are looking for a textbook!

5.0 out of 5 stars Understanding Normal and Clinical Nutrition, May 10, 2011

I purchased this book for my nutrition class instead of the required new edition.
I found this edition was identical as the newer one chapter by chapter, title by title.
Pictures, and tables where the same. Pages are off by about 1 page, however I was able to follow just fine and get a good grade in this class.

It was much cheaper than buying from my school's bookstore. And it's the exact same book. Buy internet not school bookstore.

4.0 out of 5 stars SOUND ADVICE, August 21, 2007
This review is from: Understanding Normal and Clinical Nutrition (with 4 month InfoTrac Subscription ) (Hardcover)
I thoroughly enjoyed the read. The book was provacative, informative, interesting and captivating. However, not all the advice was new, some apepars to have been recycled.

But overall I was satisfied. I feel healthier already.

For those interested in improving their overall health I also recommend You: On A Det. You: On A Diet: The Owner's Manual for Waist Management
