Here's and excellent book for anyone who wants to learn about data communication and network systems. It uses an easy to understand language and gradually introduces a new topic. It touches all aspects of transmission modes and protocol concepts but if you want to study the seven OSI layers a better book would be Computer Networks by tanenbaum.Still a good book for beginners of the subject.

Where are the Exericise Solutions?,
By Jason DeWitt (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Understanding Data Communications and Networks (The Pws Series in Computer Science) (Hardcover)
This book explains things fairly well. I would have rated it a 3 or 4, but they forgot the most important thing: THE SOLUTIONS TO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!!!! Where are they??? Without the solutions to the practice problems a technical textbook is pretty much useless!
