Understanding the Exodus is a book about religion written by a scientist. It investigates events described in the Bible to find the story behind the story. It does this by comparing biblical accounts with archeological findings, other ancient documents and geographical and geophysical data. In the process the book explains the origins of the Jewish religion, its fundamental principles, why it contains the laws that it does, and how it has evolved and changed over time. The book also explains how the fundamental beliefs of Christianity developed and how Christianity evolved from a Jewish sect to an independent religion.

He has lived in Israel and is fluent in Hebrew. Dr. Segall has a passion for understanding fundamental concepts and how they originated. He has directed this interest toward understanding the origins of the Jewish religion.
