4.0 out of 5 stars Forget everything you thought you knew about...
Kyle Lake was an unfamilar name prior to picking up "Understanding God's Will". The main reason I had picked it up is because it was under the Relevant Book umberella. Quite honestly, I was suprised at how well Lake takes a potentially mundane/serious issue and addresses it with humor, and great applications. This is not a book of fluff, and surely one that needs to be...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not great....for me
I enjoyed Lake's sermons when we would stop in for a visit, but his writing is like reading the mind of a 16 year old with ADA. I couldn't follow his thoughts. Then again maybe I'm too old to understand his jargon. When your finished reading this, please pray for is wife and kids.

This is not a book of fluff, and surely one that needs to be read more than once to really grasp the material.

It's about time someone took the time to move past formulas and point to the God who is not confined to our methods. Kyle treats the topic in a gentle, yet profound manner and his respect for the sacredness of Scripture is displayed time after time.

Dripping with personal life experiences, and applications to potentially misunderstood scriptures, Kyle Lake is an author I look forward to reading more from in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read!, November 3, 2004

Witty and insightful, Kyle Lake's Understanding God's Will is a must read for those seeking a fresh, honest approach to discovering what God desires in our lives. Lake skillfully navigates the reader through the trite formulas and truisms that have dominated- and dumbed down- the pursuit of God's will, replacing them with holistic, workable metaphors that inspire the reader to seek God with the whole of their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Amazing, November 9, 2004
This review is from: Understanding God's Will: How To Hack The Equation Without Formulas (Paperback)
There are certain, special books that you read that you never forget. They are books that impact you to such a degree that your world is forever changed. This is one of those books. As people, regardless of whether we are believers and non-believers, all of us - like it or not - have a history with God. And, in arriving at that destination, where we attempt to reconcile truth/reality and the existence or non-existence of God, we all arrive with baggage. Often times we aren't even conscious of it. In his book, Kyle Lake identifies that baggage and invites you to leave it behind. This is a book that you will not forget because it will remind you that you are free to be you and much loved. An amazing book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Word is Refreshing, November 20, 2004
This review is from: Understanding God's Will: How To Hack The Equation Without Formulas (Paperback)
In the forwards and cover and in speaking with people about this book the word that comes up more often than not is "refreshing," and I give a hearty "Amen" to that. Being over the threshold of 30 I found myself grieving that I didn't have this book in the major transitional periods of my life.

If you want to know what God's will is for you, make haste to get this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars great relief, November 3, 2004

this read has forced me to rethink how i view god's will. i'm honestly still thinking through it because i think i had previously understood god's "plan" for my life to be more of a "blueprint"--as argued against in the book. i just never realized it until now.

This book was a wonderful read, and it contains very honest, spirit-led and fresh approaches to the kingdom of God. Very sadly, the author Kyle Lake died today, leaving behind a young family.

In his memory and honor, check out this book, and pray for his family, friends and congregation.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this should be required reading in churches, November 17, 2010
This review is from: Understanding God's Will: How To Hack The Equation Without Formulas (Paperback)
Well, this book has been a real God-send to me. I'm a college student, and over the last few years, I've had some big decisions such as choosing a college, choosing a major, and such. This book is what I've been looking for for a long time. I've spent so many hours praying and asking people for any advice in decision making, and I was unable to make much progress, but this book changes your whole perception of God's will in your life and your plans. If you've been praying for God's will in your life and asking Him what that is...I think this book will help a bit.

Well, best of luck. Live your life without fear.
