More About the Author

David is a former U.S. Marine Corps non-commissioned officer, correctional supervisor and firearms instructor for the Tennessee Department of Correction. He is presently employed as full time Emergency Manager for State Government.

David an alumni of Jacksonville State University where he earned a BS in Emergency Management with a minor in Homeland Security.

David has been a member of the firearm community all his adult life. He is an NRA member, training counselor, and recruiter. Among David's many licenses are Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit Instructor, Tennessee Certified Security Guard Trainer, Utah Concealed Firearm Instructor, North Dakota Concealed Weapon Test Administrator, OCAT Pepper Spray Instructor, and Monadnock Advanced Baton Instructor.

He is also a member of the International Defensive Pistol Association, International Association of Law Enforcement Firearm Instructors, International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainer's Association, and the Oath Keepers.

He has completed numerous additional courses though the Department of Homeland Security in such subjects as: Emergency Management, Response to Terrorist Attacks, Hazardous Materials, Radiological Response, and Critical Incident Stress.

David is a state certified Hazardous Material Technician, and has completed many courses in the area of WMD and Terrorism response.

He also has an active membership in the Emergency Management Association of Tennessee, and has recently received their highest certification, Emergency Management Professional.

Mr. Nash has successfully provided basic information on hand gun usage for individual self defense. As a long time gun owner, I was impressed with the vivid details he used to show the mechanics of proper aiming, breathing, and shooting techniques. I picked up several pointers that have greatly enhanced my shooting accuracy and consistency. This book has made me realize the importance and the consequences of using deadly force on another human being and the mindset that one must have in order to do so effectively. I highly recommend this book as a great starting point for novices who think they may need or want the responsibility of owning a hand gun as well as those who already own a weapon and wish comprehensive knowledge reinforcement.

I look forward to reading his next publication in the future.

Dave Nash takes a no nonsense approach to informing the reader of what they need to know to chose and use a handgun for self defense.
He also takes a serious look at what it takes to defend oneself, it is not a hollywood movie set.
If you truly embrace his chapter on "armed" mindset you will very likely reduce the chance that you will ever have to use your firearm, and his advice on dealing with Law Enforcement is priceless.
Daves background as an NRA Training Counselor, and NRA LE Instructor gives him valuable insight in the importance of training both physical and mental.
As the Chief Training Officer of Mad Duck Training, I recommend this book to those thinking about getting a handgun for self defense, and to those that already do as a review of the knowledge they need to have.Understanding the USE of Handguns for Self-Defense

All though I've grown up around firearms I found this books content to be a great source of information. Women should really check this book out, the author does a great job of addressing concerns that a lot of women may face when considering the purchase of a firearm. Definitely a must buy if you're the least bit apprehensive or unsure of carrying a handgun.

Content is very comprehensive, easy to read, and I look forward to seeing further publications from this author!!
