I had originally purchased this book at the request of my employer for his own use. After flipping through several pages, various paragraphs jumped off the page at me confirming truths of my personality and I couldn't put it down. The DISC system of identifying personality traits is the best I've ever read. This book not only explains the the traits of a person's personality traits but how they interact and react to others. I quickly discovered why my High C personality conflicts so with my High D employer and how to possibly approach each other to maintain peace. Even my teenage daughters had fun identifying their personalities and how they related to biblical characters. This is great material for a small bible group or accountability group! P.S. My boss still doesn't have his book back. I think I'll buy him another - complete with highlights on the High C personality!

DISC in a Christian context,
By
This review is from: Understanding How Others Misunderstand You (Paperback)
Ron Braund is a licensed marriage and family therapist; Ken Voges is the author of several other personality/behavior tools for Christians. Together, they have written this great book which applies DISC personality/behavior theory in a Christian context.
In chapter one, they discuss how people are different: perceptual differences, motivational differences, and needs vs. values. They argue that personalities are by God's design and that no personality style is wrong or bad .. that every personality should be balanced, not letting strengths be emphasized to the point of weakness. Next, they introduce the DISC personality system and explain its vocabulary. They review how expectations and environment can have an impact on how people express their personalities, and they give examples of the DISC personality styles in daily living. In each of the two chapters about a particular personality style, they hit on 11 points: 1. Primary drive of the style 2. Personal giftedness of the style 3. Potential spiritual gifts of the style 4. Instinctive fear of the style 5. Strength out of control 6. Stress response 7. Blind spots 8. Areas to work on 9. Best complementary team members 10. Related Biblical model 11. Bible study references on strengths and weaknesses The authors illustrate the D style with the life of Paul; the S style with the life of Abraham; the C style with the life of Moses; and the I style with the life of Peter. Finally, they argue that Jesus demonstrated a perfect balance of all four personality styles as was appropriate for the situation. The only thing lacking in this book is a DISC-style personality test so that readers can determine their style. --Lynellen.com

I found this book helpful and rated it well. I just want to ensure folks realize that there is extensive comparisoin to New Testament biblical references. Not that there is anything wrong with that :-)

A Must Read,

I highly recommend the reading of this book to anyone experiencing a struggle in communicating to their spouse, co-worker, child, church member, pastor, etc. It has helped me understand clearly how to best assess how to effectively communicate with other personalities. It has helped me understand not only how others think, but more importantly how I percieve things, strengths and weaknesses, blind spots, etc.in my own life. I guarantee within a short time you will easily relate to the personality types identified, whether it be your own or someone you know. After becoming familiar with its content and purpose, if approached honestly and openly, it can drastically enhance your ability to relate to those in which you may now struggle.

My wife and I are using this book and workbook with our three youngest children for a family activity. This is our second time through this course, having used it in the past with a different group of our ten children. Understanding why some of us clash and what motivates and delights us at an intrinsic level has helped us to get along together as a family better than ever. Learning the DISC profiles of co-workers through use of different instruments and gaining the insight provided by this book has provided valuable insight and benefit on the job too!

I appreciate the other reviewers' comments regarding the Christian bent of this book. This approach isn't something I can use, and I'm concerned that the description didn't point out the bias.
