I have used this book for two quarters to teach Medical Assisting students. Before I could offer my opinion of the book, many of my students commented that it was poorly organized and highly repetitive. The book takes 568 pages and 27 chapters to convey material that could be reduced to perhaps 300 pages and 15 chapters (that is generous).

My critique as an instructor is the poor citing of sources, and the poor choice of sources in many instances (such as "Redbook" magazine and a variety of self-help books). I have not encountered ONE journal article cited. There are also some pretty wild claims without basis, such as generalizations of Americans as independent thinkers who would not go along with a corrupt authority figure as Germans did in the past (I used Milgram's "Obedience" studies to refute that).

It does read easily, however, for the students and it has some good ideas for conversation starters. There are some jewels in the book, but I am looking forward to our change in January.

"Understanding Human Behavior" is an excellent resource for students and those interested or operating in the behavioral sciences. The text is written in a way that is easy to understand and is chock full of examples and illustrations.

Although we purchased an older edition, the bulk of data was not outdated, and most certainly applied to human behavior today.

I choose to expedite this order because it was needed for a class. I got it within 2 business days. It was noted to have some water damage. The damage was very minimal and the book looked almost new. Everyone in my class who bought the book from the school's bookstore was still waiting on it. I was pleased with myself because not only did I have my book I paid 50% less than they did.
