Useful for all the people who want to understand all the components of this popular format, August 28, 2006
This review is from: Understanding MP3 (Paperback)
The first thing that a person who is studing, working or is trying to understand how an mp3 file is composed, can notice is that the informations that one can find in public websites are unuseful to understand how to make a stream decoding in all the particulars.
An mp3 file is composed of several sub-parts that i find explained only in "UNDERSTANDING MP3".
Inside the book you can find not only a complete decoder written in C-like language but also mathematical explanations of audio compression, layer I frequency analysis, encoding and decoding.
I'm developing a mp3 decoder and i find this book really important to understand parts that are not explained in other books.

Highly recommended. A definitive and complete guide to the mp3 standard, all three layers AND the theory behind them in detail. Is accompanied by complete code to work with this file format. A fantastic and worthwhile investment for those who work in-depth with mp3.
