Recommended to anyone interested in psychology -- a great read for parents too.

It was otherwise a good textbook, but for some reason fifty pages are missing and not torn out.
Michael Willis
I will have to admit this is one of the most boring text books I have ever read.

I purchased this book for my elective class for my Master's degree as a required reading but loved it so much I am sending it to my mother to read for enjoyment purposes as well. It is not only a text book but has some great insights as to what to do to just help you change your own way of thinking and living and how to motivate yourself and others on the job and in life in general. It is easy to read, grabs your attention, and keeps you captivated. It is not like reading a text book at all. This book will stay on my shelves for a lifetime.

I read a lot of psychology books. This book is fantastic. Johnmarshall Reeve has a genuine talent to explain delicate subjects elegantly -- and with humor. A very complete manual, totally worth the hefty tag price. Recommended to anyone interested in psychology -- a great read for parents too.

I wanted to give this book a fair chance and not jump to conclusions based on others ratings, but it is INCREDIBLY dry and boring. I have an immensely hard time not falling asleep while reading it. It was really hard to get through. I have read many other texts for school, and many of them are dry and hard to read. However, this one takes the cake. I don't know if it the cadence, lack of color, lack of interesting graphics, or block style with no breaking up of text. Whatever it is, it just drones on seemingly forever. if you have to read it you have to read it, but be prepared with a lot of sleep and coffee when you sit down to read this beast.

I will have to admit this is one of the most boring text books I have ever read. Roughly 460 actual pages to read and I believe 1 picture, it is a dense textbook. I love psychology and motivation is an interesting topic which is why I took the course (plus it is required for my degree), my enthusiasm for the subject is why I think my review is so positive considering how dry this information presented is. Here is the truth, boring but filled with knowledge and presented in an understandable fashion. This book could easily be used in graduate level courses instead of undergraduate. My professor did make us read the whole book in a 10 week course but was honest with the information we needed to retain and know for our exams. If he hadn't done that I would have been discouraged simply because of the amount of knowledge presented. Overall one of the best text books I have ever had the privilege of reading, lol, but still boring.

I hope that helps!

Worst Text book I have ever had for a class hands down! I will be more than happy (emotion) and ten times more driven in life (motivation) once I never have to look at this book again!

I ordered this book as it is the required text for my Psychology of Motivation & Emotion class. I ordered it through Amazon because it was almost half the price of buying it at my college bookstore. The material contained within the book is top notch. The problem I have is that chapters of this book are out of page number sequence. I didn't realize this until after I hard started to read further into the material. I don't know what happened, nor do I recall having seen anything in the listing noting this.

Particularly dry read. Lots of information that seems to be clearly outdated, yet still relevant due to the lack of new research in the subject. Great for Mr. Halligan's 491 class at SFSU.
