Editorial Reviews

Review

“The second edition of Understanding Nonprofit Organizations will be applauded by students, instructors, and practitioners…This eagerly anticipated new edition is a major revision and adds many recent articles by key scholars and fresh new topics required for anyone wishing to understand this fascinating dynamic sector…[W]ill be a standard assigned text for nonprofit courses and should be found on practitioners’ ‘must read’ lists.”
Russell A. Cargo, Ph.D., principal, Third Sector Services, LLC, and senior fellow at the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership, University of Missouri at Kansas City

“A welcome contribution to the literature of the nonprofit sector…[that] explains in useful terms what we need to know about nonprofit organizations, how they function, and how they can effectively be led and managed. [The] chapters have been written by leading scholars and professionals, and they are organized and presented in ways that bring important clarity to the management of this new world of nonprofit organizations. We are fortunate to have this valuable resource to inform our work in these exciting times.”
David O. Renz (from the foreword)

“[The Nature of the Nonprofit Sector and Understand Nonprofit Organizations] work well together and are valuable resources that will help students, professionals, and scholars alike explore and understand the external and internal environments of nonprofit organizations. Overall, the volumes reach the editors’ goals of presenting a story of the nonprofit sector that is readable and focuses on the central ideas that are important for students and professionals to grasp. These books are now part of my ‘go-to’ books as an instructor for macro-level social work courses and as a cofounder and community organizer working with various stakeholder on a new social service initiative.”

I got this book for a graduate level grant writing course. I loved it! Very readable with real examples of functioning organizations. The chapters were clear, on topic, and informative. As my classmates will attest-I am a research guru and I loved this book! Get it, you won't be sorry--especially if you want ideas for how to fund raise, successfully write grants and explore developing your organization's fund raising options.

I also liked (because I am a professional artist) the cover art--I am sick of boring off topic "cover art" that tells me the book will be as boring as the cover and then is! I know that the cover art not a big deal but the text, in this case, matched the popping green puzzle piece and I liked that fact! Happy reading!

Great book for those who is learning or starting to get familiar with the nonprofit field, or simply wants to know more. The collection of the reading in the book is do diverse, but on the most importnat toipcs about nonprofits such as board and CEO governing, finances, networks, volunteerism, etc.; and at the same so concise - the excerpts from other books and articlesare exactly what a student need, the authors cut straight to the chase with the selected reading and with short introductions in front of every chapter.

Even it is a used book, but quite nice. The celler packed it with box. Put up a smile face on box, very friendly.
