In order to continue to meet the needs of the market, the revision for the third edition will include extensively revising the text to reflect the most current literature and clinical studies. The qualitative research content and examples will be expanded throughout selected chapters. The discussion of outcomes research will be expanded in Chapters 1: Discovering Nursing Research, 7: Clarifying Research Designs, 8: Populations and Samples, 9: Measurement and Data Collection in Research, and 13: Using Research in Nursing Practice. There will also be an introduction to intervention research included in this edition.

Other revisions include an introduction of the concept of evidence-based practice, a hot topic in the field of nursing. It will be presented and discussed in Chapter 13: Using Research in Nursing Practice, and the concept will be discussed throughout the text. There will also be a major revision of Chapter 4: Review of Literature to be consistent with The Practice of Nursing Research, 4/e. This edition will also include an introduction to the use of research in developing best practices and clinical guidelines. This will be introduced in Chapter 1: Discovering Nursing Research and also in Chapter 13: Using Research in Nursing Practice. Finally, the expansion of relevant web sites for selected content will be emphasized with an icon directing students to the SIMON web site.
