This readable, well-organized, comprehensive, and scholarly text is accessible to social work students and helps them learn about, understand, analyze, and evaluate social welfare policies and programs.

What Reviewers Are Saying

“The approach [of Understanding Social Welfare] is among the best. . . . I would not use another text.”
–George T. Patterson, New York University

“I consider it a great strength that this text incorporates the diversity component throughout the text, which is so essential to the social work curriculum. . . . An awareness of this diversity affords the student a valuable perspective and a broader context to evaluate our own state of social policy.”
–Sheli Bernstein-Goff, West Liberty State College

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvin's Reveiw, September 25, 2011

I had to apply this book for my sociology class. From front to back the materials were engaging. Dolgoff and Steinfield (2007) provided a great comprehensive perspective of social welfare. All information was easily read and flowed smoothly. The vital thing is that the book is worth keeping and the information can be applied to world circumstances. The book provides a great understanding of the functional, conflict and interactionist perspectives into social welfare.

This review is from: Understanding Social Welfare: A Search for Social Justice (8th Edition) (Hardcover)
I bought this book for a class and the book was everything that the caption said it would be. It was not damaged and the book itself proved to be a book to keep for reference for other classes.
