5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Introductory Statistics Text
Prior to the first edition of this text I used a different text in my introductory statistics course each year because students did not like my text selections. I've used Pagano's text every year since the first edition was published in 1981 because every year the students tell me to retain this text. It is superbly written and exquisitely designed. 2.0 out of 5 stars Student Solutions
The info contained in the chapters is pretty good and I appreciated the examples of how to do the work, however...if you're a student and you want to check your homework, that might be a little hard. The author only lists SOME of the answers to the homework, and the answers they do have usually don't tell you how they arrived at those answers. What they NEED to provide...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, September 21, 2010
The book is very well-written and is written for people who don't have a math background to easily understand statistics. The author writes in a conversational tone, which is really helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, thorough text for undergrad stats course, July 22, 2009
By
Pagano does a very nice job with this text. Not only does he explain the meaning and relevance of the statistical tests, he gives very thorough instructions and clear examples of how to carry them out in practice. The strength of the book is that it makes everything come full circle. All in the same chapter, you learn when to use a particular test, how to calculate the test, and what the results actually mean, as well as any assumptions and shortcomings of the test you're using.

Pagano also incorporates several real-world examples of the tests being used (correctly and incorrectly), which was very helpful to me. It meant that I could take the tests I learned in the course and apply them to other psychology courses with confidence. When I read about a t-test being performed in a certain study, I actually knew what it meant and what it could and could not prove.

This is an excellent text to gain a strong base knowledge in statistics. It is very user-friendly, easy to read, with many examples. It also has a good number of practice problems at the back of each chapter, which were useful for extra homework practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!!, February 3, 2010

Everything in this book is explained so well. EVERYTHING! What a great job with this book! Well done. I was sweating bullets taking this class and I understand the book easier than my teacher often times. (I have a really good teacher too!) I hate math, and I am confident I will do well in this class with this book. Thank you so much Robert. You rock!

5.0 out of 5 stars Graduate Statistics, December 21, 2008
Statistics can be a very abstract topic and Statisticians speak in a language all their own. This book was the assigned text for my graduate level statistics class. Pagano, at times, speaks an English language we all can understand and uses real-world examples for many of the topics covered in the book. Still, I would not recommend trying to understand this book or its subject matter without actually being enrolled in statistics course, but it is a very good text for statistics students, even those without strong math backgrounds, to understand.

The author only lists SOME of the answers to the homework, and the answers they do have usually don't tell you how they arrived at those answers. What they NEED to provide is a student solutions manual. I'd be happy to pay extra for it, but they don't have it. They do sell a student study guide, which I did purchase and that does help some, but it's not even close to what would allow the student to understand the homework problems in a step by step manner. Would someone at the publishing house PLEASE provide a student solutions manual??? PLEEEEASE!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Readable Stats, December 20, 2011

The book as effective at teaching the concepts of statistics.
It is very wordy which I found to be extremely helpful at understanding the problems.
Reading stat concepts worked for me much better than just seeing a problem and trying to figure it out.
