5.0 out of 5 stars Good Overview of How Wall Street Works, November 18, 2010
This review is from: Understanding Wall Street, Fifth Edition (Paperback)
I thought that the book was well written and very easy to understand. Provides a good historical background of Wall Street and how the markets got started. If I didn't read this book before watching the movie "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps", then I wouldn't understand the meaning behind the Dutch tulip craze that Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas) discusses in the dialogue.

Five stars for helping the reader understand Wall Street! Recommended for anyone just starting out in the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally Pleasing, November 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Understanding Wall Street, Fifth Edition (Paperback)
This book provides everything that the front cover stands for. It can be a little in depth and overwhelming at points, but nonetheless, a good and interesting book. I would definitely recommend buying this book, if one seeks to expand their knowledge about the stock market.

This book starts really well. I mean, really basic stuff. When I started to read the book I thought this is what I was looking for. BUT then the problems started, it jumps to real business, man. I couldn't really keep pace with the information and the author forgets his basics attitude he starts with. And I was just fresh from another finances fraud book so I was not completely lost with the terms he used but some chapters gave a headache.
It is like Michael Moore's Capitalism: a Love Story when he asks a explanation to a stockbroker: "Man, I was lost!"
And some chapters read like How To Invest In Stocks, which was NOT what I was looking for but I know is part of the understanding promised. Maybe I'm just a freshman complaining and maybe i should choose Wall Street for Dummies. And I guess I will. lol.
