Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Catching a trout is among the most rewarding challenges in the entire sport of fly fishing because they are superbly adapted to their environment. To catch the wiliest among them, an angler must know all of the many defenses that trout employ to protect themselves from predators. In Understanding Trout Behavior, John Goddard and Brian Clarke give anglers invaluable advice about: how trout see a "window" of images that is refracted through water; how rises and other feeding behavior can tell you what fly to use; why casting vertically can reduce your chances of catching fish; why fish see more when they are in deeper water than when they are in shallow water; how to tie flies that take advantage of how trout see their world. (5 x 7 1/2, 160 pages, color photos, color illustrations, diagrams, charts)

1.0 out of 5 stars Deceptive title and content!, December 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Understanding Trout Behavior: Brilliant Insights into How Trout Act and Why by the Authors of The Trout and the Fly (Paperback)
The cover says "Brilliant Insights into How Trout Act and Why by the Authors of The Trout and The Fly". This book is actually certain chapters of The Trout and the Fly, choosen by Lefty for his "Little Library". Nothing on the cover, front or back, tells you this, which I feel is quite deceptive. In fact, the cover text leads you to believe that is a new book from the authors. So, if you have read The Trout and the Fly, you have read this book. If you haven't read The Trout and the Fly, get a copy of that and get the whole book, rather than this butchered reprint. Seeing that I own The Trout and the Fly, I will be returning my copy....

2.0 out of 5 stars Book should be called "trout vision", April 5, 2003
This review is from: Understanding Trout Behavior: Brilliant Insights into How Trout Act and Why by the Authors of The Trout and the Fly (Paperback)
This book was mostly about how trout see the "outside world". Although an indepth and interesting read, I was a little disappointed that the book spent so much time on this topic.
