Book Description

November 11, 2003
Crimes, capers, and mayhem abound when eleven New England writers turn their talents to the art of the short story. Here we meet an eclectic cast of good guys and bad guys, including a battle-scarred PI who repairs cars when she's not investigting murders, a Jamaican cook who traffics with ghosts, and a Protean temp worker with a touch of larceny in her soul. Whether hard-boiled or humorous, eerie or evocative, these stories explore the dark side of human nature through a variety of genres--mystery, suspense, thriller, and horror. Something for everyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good creepy fun.........., February 15, 2004
This review is from: Undertow: Crime Stories by New England Writers (Paperback)
What an excellent collection of short stories! A little something for everyone. I found "Not My Son" by Ruth McCarty to be particularly chilling - every parent's nightmare. "Totaled" by Clayton Emery is an unnerving story and Skye Alexander's "Life, Death, Love and Baseball" has humor and the metaphysical mystique of her novel "Hidden Agenda". This is a great book for a cold night when you have a hot cup of tea and are absolutely certain you have nothing to fear..........
