5.0 out of 5 stars Yep.
Well I wrote a long descriptive review but they didn't like it I guess. I'll give you the jist.

-It's not as light and funky as people make it out to be. There is that but both discs take a turn for the more intimate and serious; exactly what anyone would want from a good night out.

-It blends some unique styles of house that are a refreshing break from what people...

3.0 out of 5 stars Awesome tunes.... nothing more
I have to admit, there are some really awesome tunes on both cd's. I don't think there's a track that i dont like. Although this is true, that's about as far as the CD goes. Some of the mixing makes me want to puke, and programming doesnt even exist in these discs. Emerson= good producer. not a good dj.

Well I wrote a long descriptive review but they didn't like it I guess. I'll give you the jist.

-It's not as light and funky as people make it out to be. There is that but both discs take a turn for the more intimate and serious; exactly what anyone would want from a good night out.

-It blends some unique styles of house that are a refreshing break from what people traditionally call "Progressive house". Anyone see the irony in that? anyway.

-I didn't like Emerson's GU releases but these two discs, in particularly disc 1, will be one of those compilations that I recall with good feelings a few years down the road. I can't say that for very many of the compilations that I pick up these days. What Deluxe and Emerson are doing here is breathing new life into EDM. Give it a listen, give it several listens.

-I haven't been able to spot a tune I didn't like which is one of my criteriums for an excellent mix. It meets the other criteria as well.

Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Look out for ya'self, October 24, 2007
This review is from: Underwater, Episode 1 (Audio CD)
For the most part, this is two disc set of progressive disco house. When I first made the purchase I listened to both sets completely. I'll be honest, Track 1 on the first cd (Emerson's set) has been ultimately set to repeat in my brain! This track has become my "backing out the garage and rolling to work" theme. Just a very good vibe to start the 2 disc set. So if you get this for anything, get it for track 1 called "Ya'self". I give it another week and it will be in my "Top 25" on my iPod!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best DJ mix of 2002?, October 29, 2002

This DJ mix is essential and a must buy for anyone who likes any kind of dance music, especially progressive house fans. Not too tribal, yet not too jazzy, but stacked full of dancefloor burners. Now we know why Emerson left Underworld. The sound is especially refreshing coming to since the breaks (James Lavelle's new mix: pretty good)+ nu-electro scene is getting stale lately.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pumping, glammy, trashy anti-prog house., October 28, 2002

Here is a planet moving far away from the mass of progressive hous chug and boom.

Darren Emerson of Underworld fame has teamed up with a rising start of the UK music scene to create a pumping, glammy, trashy, techno stew of a mix. Its cheap, its nasty, its sexy, its electronic, as one would expect from Emerson, one of the new electronic meisters of the 1990s. This is no Digweed, this is no Graham, its got the ghost gay disco and attitude all over it, and its fun.

On the surface prog house in structure, it carries a lot of jewelry on its spiny bod, that glitters and shines, particularly of the keyboard kind. Its not dark, brooding and subeterannean as the fashion has been of late, but Emerson is clearly trying to define the next wave of what club will be. Its an interesting blend and interesting try, although ultimately a tad derivative--reintegrating techno siganture sounds back into prog house, have not we done this already?-- and not overly satisfying. Like candyfloss that saturates the taste buds but quickly dissipates, leaving an icky feeling in the mouth. But thats just me.

But its certianly moving in the opposite direciton and a Jolt Cola antidote to the latest prog house/trance Global Underground relases of Satoshie Tomie, Anthony Pappa, Sander Kleinenberg and Lawler. Give it a twirl: good for parties I'll wager.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad!, October 19, 2004
By
This review is from: Underwater, Episode 1 (Audio CD)
I am a huge fan of Underworld, Emerson, PVD, many such progressive authors. I saw this at the store today after I did a trade in, and I decided to give this a try since Darren Emerson was one of the core members of Underworld, I figured why not.

It's not bad! It's a little bit different than what I'm used to, but not by much - it's really great! I'd recommend getting a used cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Darren Who???, October 14, 2002
By
This review is from: Underwater, Episode 1 (Audio CD)
I was at Virgin Megastore down town, and some chick reccomended me this cd. A little hesitant at first, I looked at her... She said "you know who darren emerson is... right???"; talking to me like I was an everyday teenage "boper" who listens to "techno" So, I went with it. "Underwater" is an excellent house cd. The beats are heavy and at times you feel like you rocking to "old skool" tunes. I love it. The opening tracks 1-3 on disc one are fantastic. It sets the mood for the whole cd. The 2nd cd seemed far fetched for me, so it didn't leave a strong impression on me. The last couple tracks rock though. Well, as I'm still listening to it and feeling it out, I wish I could be more helpful. But from what I've listened to it (played it through 3 times) It's growing on me. Hoping this helps a little, this cd deservs a review of 5 stars (4.5 rounded up)
