4.0 out of 5 stars Underwater Shots

We took this case scuba diving in Cozumel; BIG mistake. Our dive master was taking pictures when he noticed water had seeped into the case. I'm not sure if it was because I had not sealed it properly or because we exceeded the depth limit by over 30 feet. While we were able to save the card, the camera was dead. After drying everything thoroughly, we took it snorkeling...

I was going on a trip that would have snorkeling as one of the activities and I wanted to be able to take pictures underwater. I didn't want to spend a lot of money so I settled on a case I could use for a small point and shoot camera, a Canon A570.

This case proved to be easy to set up. To use the case, drop the camera in the case and seal it. There are triple seals to keep out water. The first is a zip lock type seal that is the main barrier against water entry. The end of the case is folded over and closed with a Velcro seal and the folded again with another Velcro seal. The seals worked and I did not have any water get inside the case. The case includes a strap and I hung the camera around my neck while snorkeling. There is sufficient air in the case such that it floats.

Using the camera inside the case took some care. My camera has a lens that extends when the camera is turned on. If the lens is not centered over the extension in the case, it will hang and not extend fully when the camera is turned on. So the first step was always to center the lens with one hand and turn on the camera with the other. The camera can slide around in the case as there is nothing to fix it in position. The plastic case is heavy enough that I found it difficult to operate the zoom lever as it is located near the rolled up end of the case. Buttons are much easier to push, although it does take some effort.

I did manage to take lots of pictures underwater and they turned out OK. At the widest zoom, the end of the case shows in the picture as a black ring. Once you are underwater and try to take pictures out of the water as well as underwater, drops of water remain on the lens part of the case and show up in pictures taken with the camera out of the water.

All in all this case performed as expected and considering the price, it does a great job. If one is considering doing a lot of underwater photography, then a hard case might be a wise investment, but for a trip and casual use this is a useful item.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures - Kept my camera dry, May 9, 2009

I was hesitant to trust this product with my digital camera but went snorkling with it twice and had no problem with leaking. I also took pictures from up high while parasailing which I wouldn't have done without it being waterproofed! My only complaint was that I couldn't use the zoom as the plastic prevented me from zooming back! I had some trouble adjusting to seeing the black circle in my viewfinder buyt once I realized I could just point slightly above the subject (fish) instead of lining them up in the usual manner, I did fine! And for those pictures that had the black cirle, I was able to crop it out!

This was so worth the money...and it cost very little!! We got the most amazing photos using this with both our Canon PowerShot and our Kodak Easyshare cameras on our trip to Cayman(the same case worked just as well for our Kodak without having to invest in another one). It worked great for both cameras and neither one got one drop of water on them. I was unsure the case would work at first, but after our first time snorkeling my husband and I were amazed at how great it worked. We used it every day and got some of our pictures 30 feet down. So much better than buying a separate underwater camera! I highly recommend this product.

I'm not sure if it was because I had not sealed it properly or because we exceeded the depth limit by over 30 feet. While we were able to save the card, the camera was dead. After drying everything thoroughly, we took it snorkeling with a new camera inside. Everything worked perfectly. It's a little difficult to manipulate the camera controls inside the case but, if you are careful, you can make everything work. Just be very careful about sealing the case and DO NOT exceed the depth limit.

This case does the trick for snorkeling and cave tubing. Occasionally, you need to be sure the lens cover portion is in position or you'll get camera errors when opening or little half moon shadows on your phots. But photos are very clear and good.

Sure, it keeps your camera dry, however, it produces such a bad glare from the sun you cant see the screen on the back of your camera anyways. Im just gonna suck it up and buy a real underwater camera, Ive tried everything else. Save your money on this one!

This fits my Canon camera nicely after jamming it in. But, god forbid if you want to take it out. It took me a half an hour to remove it and it wasn't even wet. I was sweating when I was done and ready to throw it across the room. If you want a waterproof camera, just go out and buy one.

i was very hesitant of buying a case for using in the water for my camera because if it leaked, my camera was shot and it would be expensive to replace, but not having the money for a good underwater camera i chose the dicapac. the many great reviews are true. I have a canon powershot a590is. my camera did not get wet! easy to get the camera in, but it is hard to get out of the pack. a great buy, i'm happy i purchased it. have to watch the automatic lens opening when you turn on the camera as it will jam up and will take a few to get it to go "off" and then re-turn it on. so make sure it's centered over where your lense will open up when you turn it on. kept my camera dry and that was my issue! there was a couple shots that had the black ring around the outside and some with the water spots because of course your in the water. i didn't go much underwater this trip. one girl i read on the cruise boards had stated putting in a napkin under her camera and it held it in the right place, i never did do that lol.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the money!, June 30, 2010
This review is from: Underwater Case for the Following Canon Powershot Digital Cameras: A530, A540... (Electronics)
I bought this case for a cruise that we just took in April. It worked perfectly for swimming in Grand Cayman and even on an ATV adventure in Cozumel where it rained the entire time we were there. I got some amazing pictures and the case never once leaked.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a reliable case!
