5.0 out of 5 stars great vacation idea!
I just came back from a cruise in the Caribbean and I said many time that buying this camera case was the best idea I'd ever had. We just got back from Hawaii and took this with us when we went snorkling. This is a great product that keeps your camera dry. The only problem is that the case is a one-size-fits-all. Even though the description of the product said it would fit my Cannon SD-1000, the camera was very loose inside the case. You have to make sure that your camera lens is centered inside their lens ring when taking pictures, otherwise you'll get a black ring around your photos. It is very difficult to do this when underwater because there is so much free play with the camera. I solved that problem by stuffing Kleenex on the two sides and the bottom of the camera so it was wedged in the case and wouldn't move around on me. Another problem I encountered is that when I centered my camera lens in the hole, their black ring blocked half of my flash. I couldn't get the camera positioned where the lens was centered and my flash was unubstructed.

On the plus side - the case kept my camera dry and my pictures came out great. I was snorkling in shallow waters in the morning and didn't need my flash, so that didn't seem to be a problem. This is a very affordable product for underwater photography. I didn't want to spend $300 on an underwater digital camera for just a couple of days use and I've tried the disposable underwater cameras without much luck. You didn't know if you got a good picture until you had your film developed. With this product, I was able to use the camera I already had and I liked to take great unerwater shots.

I would have given this 4 stars if it had been better fit to my camera. I would highly recommend it if you don't mind taking the time to wedge your camera inside the case prior to going into the water. Once you're in the water, you can't see your display to see if your lens is centered.

Basically, it's well worth the money, even if you only use it once or twice, but it's a great thing to protect your camera against the elements in general.

We were so suprised at how well this worked! We took it to Hawaii and used it while swimming and snorkeling and it was great. The pictures were very clear and we never worried about leaking. Even when we would use the camera on the beach (not underwater) all the pictures were beautiful.

Thanks for a great product at a reasonable price!

A cheaper less sophisticated approach that fit my price budget. The plastic is supple enough to accommodate several point and shoot camera models. Hasn't leaked on me yet, although i don't think it would be wise to open and close it while on the beach. A feature that is missing and would be helpful is an external tripod thread. The roll up side extends the cameras width by an inch and half and doubles quite well as a grip with a robust strap system. Aside from switching batteries and chips, there isn't much reason to remove the camera in most situations, save for a little vignetting with the flash. The cap to the extended lens barrel can be unscrewed for cleaning/defogging or expelling air. (just don't do it underwater =)) The lens extension does not collapse by design so don't plan on dropping this in your pocket after a swim.

I bought this case for my Canon SD1100. We were going to be snorkeling in the Caribbean, and I didn't want to use a disposable for the underwater photos.

The bag was a bit big for the camera, and you had to be really careful that the camera was in the right spot. Otherwise, you got black shadows on the edges of your pictures. Actually toggling some of the buttons was nearly impossible while in the bag. For example, zooming in, or switching from photo mode to video mode was pretty much impossible.

It was also impossible to use the flash while the camera was in the bag- the flash was mostly blocked, so it did no good. Even worse, some light would get through, so the picture was unevenly exposed.

Even with all those criticisms, I am happy with the purchase. I figure that it was a much more affordable option than to buy and develop film from several disposable cameras. I was able to take 400 photos with my digital, and then pick and choose which photos to print. You don't get that luxury with a disposable camera.

2.0 out of 5 stars Frustrated Snorkeler, April 8, 2009

After reading some encouraging reviews I ordered the waterproof case for my digital camera. Following the tips from those reviews I used rolled pieces of soft cloth to help the camera "fit" inside the bag, tested it at home in a sink of water to make sure it was waterproof (it IS) and practiced taking pictures around the house. All fine and good. However, when snorkeling it was difficult to press the camera buttons through the plastic case; but the most frustrating part was how the plastic case would "stick" to the camera, causing glare that made it almost impossible to "see" where you were aiming. It would have been better to just pick up a disposable underwater camera (which I had used successfully the previous month on a whale watching trip in Mexico). At least I would have some decent photos of the colorful fish & coral to remember from our Caribbean vacation. I would NOT recommend this produt.

I completely agree with D. Maus's review. I echo his sentiments exactly. This camera case is "good enough" if you're not willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for the professional underwater case that is meant to go with your camera.

This is a very basic, plastic (with a velcro seal) cover for the camera. I have an SD1000 and the case is really too big for my camera. The camera kind of rolls around in the too-big case. Underwater, you really had to spend time positioning the camera into the case. And often times, once it was centered properly, the ring does block the flash. Plus, it just really hard to be underwater and figure out the positioning logistics for the camera. (where is the camera, where is the ring, is the flash covered, etc) With aquatic life being what it is, you've probably missed the shot by the time you get everything in order. I also used this while scuba diving (a shallow dive, only 25 ft under) and the lower you go, the harder it is to position the camera in the case, or change any of the camera settings. The plastic gets really tight around the camera, making movement and adjustments near impossible. I tried stuffing tissue on either side of the case to position the camera as suggested, but it was a pretty pathetic effort. I still had trouble. If I gave up and tried to just point and shoot, I ended up with lots of black ring marks in my photo from the case.

All in all, this is an okay solution if you want to take underwater pictures and save yourself some cash. It's reusable, so I'm sure I will get my money's worth. Since I already bought it, I will continue to use it. Although, in a perfect world, I'd have the extra cash to just buy the case meant for my particular camera. :D

4.0 out of 5 stars Waterproof case but..., August 21, 2010

This review is from: Underwater Housing Case for Canon Powershot SD1100, SD1000, SD890IS, SD850IS, SD790IS SD770IS, SD750, SD630, Digital Cameras (Electronics)
I bought the "Underwater Housing Case for Canon Powershot SD1100, SD1000, SD890IS, SD850IS, SD790IS SD770IS, SD750, SD630, Digital Cameras" to take to Cancun and I own the Canon SD750. I remember opening it and being a little worried that it would not work so I tested it in the sink with a piece of paper inside and there was no leak or problem. So I put my camera in and went to the beach excited to take pictures in the ocean and at the pool. It was perfect for our trip because my wife and I could take pictures of each other while were swimming around. We sometimes would ask other tourists to take our picture on the beach and they would be worried about sand getting on the camera or say let me wipe my hands but we'd tell them not to worry because the case prevents anything from getting on your camera. In the pool we took pictures of our faces underwater and the pictures were clear. Sometimes when we took pictures underwater either in the ocean or pool if there wasn't a lot of visibility then all you could see is a shade of blue water. So if the visibility underwater is good then your camera should be able to take good pictures. While we were in the pool I also tested it's buoyancy and the case floats with a camera inside. We also went to Chichen Itza and during the middle of our visit there was a torrential downpour for about 30 minutes but I was able to put the case on before it started raining and it worked perfectly in the rain. No water leaks whatsoever. My only dislike about the case is that the lens part on the case doesn't always line up with the camera's because the case is designed for one size fits all. So if someone doesn't line up the lenses properly there would be a black circular outline on some of the pictures. If I had to do it again I would still buy this case. The price was cheaper than buying a waterproof camera. It was awesome being able to take pictures in the ocean or pool without having to worry about your camera getting ruined. It floats and is easy to install and carry around. Another bonus that I just remembered was when recording movies we were able to record audio through the case without a problem which was really cool. Lastly, I don't think the resolution was really changed by having the case on it either.

3.0 out of 5 stars Keeps the camera safe and dry!, August 4, 2009
This review is from: Underwater Housing Case for Canon Powershot SD1100, SD1000, SD890IS, SD850IS, SD790IS SD770IS, SD750, SD630, Digital Cameras (Electronics)
This camera case does a perfect job of keeping the camera dry, and it never leaked while I was snorkeling, or even diving under! Photos and videos came out clear and stunning.

The camera case was about twice the size for my SD 890IS. I just used the case without stuffing anything inside, because I didn't have any soft cloths on hand. There is a big issue with centering the camera so that the lens ring of the case does not show up in your pictures. About half of my pictures and videos came out with rings. This was the most annoying issue for me.

Another thing I had to get used to was that the LCD screen and viewfinder were impossible to use underwater, even when it was not sunny. So, I took a LOT of pictures to compensate for any mis-aims! The toggles to switch back and forth from photo to video took some time to get used to with the case, but it was soon easy to do.

All-in-all, I would recommend this camera case for the money. I would also suggest practicing getting used to this camera case before your trip, either in a pool, or just around the house. That way, you can enjoy your snorkeling without worrying about how to maneuver the camera inside the case.

2.0 out of 5 stars Function well, but broke apart after several uses, May 4, 2010

It worked pretty well during my three snorkelings. Easy to bring to underwater. No leak at all. Some pictures got a black ring, but those areas can be easily cropped by image post-process. However, on the 4th use, when I was on the Wailua river kayaking tour, the part that attached to the string just fell. I was lucky that I noticed when it happened, otherwise I would have lost my camera along with all the pictures.
