5.0 out of 5 stars Jane Russell at her deep diving best!, June 2, 2007

This review is from: Underwater [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the kind of movie to watch on a hot summer's afternoon. You have Jane Russell in her skin diving best along with Gilbert Roland from this classic released in 1955. Other than Jane Russell's underwater abilities, you have a song that was certainly big stuff on the pop charts at the time. "Apple Pink and Cherry Blossom White" which was a success for Perez Prado. Although I don't believe it did well at the box office, this film was a fave for Jane Russell fans and those who like to enjoy the deep!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy storyline but cutting edge cinematography for its time, February 11, 2007
This review is from: Underwater [VHS] (VHS Tape)
At the time this movie was made, scuba diving was just starting to become a recreational sport. Howard Hughes in his usual style took this and ran with it. The story line is pretty clique. Our hero with his beautiful girl at his side and a partner goes after undersea treasure. Bad guys try to pirate it from them, our hero saves the day. The underwater cinematography was pretty good considering the technology at the time. The diving scenes were not too bad, although most recreational dive instructors today probably cringe at the cardinal rules of diving being broken.

And then there is Jane Russell. There is no denying this woman in a swimsuit is a view to behold no matter how bad the movie.

A enhanced DVD version of this movie would have been terrific, alas it is only available in VHS.
