Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

There are a few important things to remember when you wear underwear. "Do put your clean underwear away," for example. "Don't put it in the freezer." Furthermore, "do dress up your dog in underwear." But "don't use your sister's favorite pair." Certainly "do wear underwear when you go trick-or-treating." But please, "don't wear it over your costume." Keep all these lessons in mind when wearing underwear, and you can never go wrong.

Todd Parr's silly little book will have readers of all ages rolling in the aisles. The book is very simple--basically just a list of do's and don'ts, no introduction, no grand finale. Just some helpful hints for those who might otherwise forget and bring their new underwear for show-and-tell instead of just wearing it on the first day of school. Parr's trademark, as seen in Do's and Don'ts and The Feelings Book, is terrifically bold, vivid slabs of color--some of the stick-figure childlike illustrations feature blue-faced or green-pigtailed children. For those young readers who are getting ready to shed those diapers and enter the exciting world of big-boy or big-girl underpants, this is an absolute must. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

From School Library Journal

PreSchool-Grade 2-Both of these small, simple, and sometimes very silly books feature brightly colored single-page cartoons of stick-figure-styled animals, people, and faces. In the first title, Parr shows that feelings are always changing. "Sometimes I feel like standing on my head" and "Sometimes I feel like celebrating my birthday even though it's not today" mix with "Sometimes I feel lonely" and "Sometimes I feel cranky." On the last page, the author encourages readers to share their feelings with "-someone you love." Overall, this is a nice addition to titles about the topic. In Underwear, Parr continues his series of books about "Do's and Don'ts." One double-page spread couples "Do Wash your underwear" with "Don't Use too much soap." Another advises, "Do Go shopping for underwear with a hippo" but "Don't Let her try it on," accompanied by an illustration of a hippo in ripped panties, size XL. This zany title is sure to send listeners into peals of laughter during storytime.

For the past 3 years I have given nothing but Todd Parr books to all my friend's w/ new babies. They are amazing. Unique, colorful, fun - I simply love them. Plus, Todd looks at families from all points of view. And even if your family is the most traditional on the block, your kids should be aware that all families are not the same. I promise you won't be diappointed. Get them all - you'll simply love them.

For children, underwear is funny. I think many would find this book funny, too. The dos and don'ts are, of course, goofy (like "Do put your clean underwear away, but don't put it in the freezer"). It has big bright pictures to illustrate each do and don't. To get a giggle out of child, it is hard to go wrong with a book about underwear (just saying the word is sometimes enough). If your preschooler enjoys silly books, then DO buy this one, but DON'T be mad at me if your child does not like it (children are difficult to predict sometimes and who knows your child better than you?).
