1.0 out of 5 stars Does not stand on its own!
I am a big fan of Paul's music. By this I mean his studio albums and also the score to "Blue Crush". This CD is very disappointing because the music does not stand on its own i.e. it can only coexist with the movie. For this reason I do not understand why it was even released, especially that the beautiful "Blue Crush" score, which is by far more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Battle music supreme, April 23, 2008
This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is magnificent but dark never the less. The music rises like mist and fills my ears with clouds of color and sound, murky, pulsating and totally electrifying. I haven't listened to it for some time and when this album came on my iPod at random it shocked my senses during my moon lit midnight walk home. The music send a kick through my insides and by the time I got home I felt like the Terminator because this music makes you walk like something out of a movie.

My favorite piece is "Metamorphosis", totally unique and amazing. Hearing it makes me think of a throbbing industrial gestation of some mechanical monster. "Transformation" was also cool but short, I mean werewolf transformation on screen is impressive but when the music matches it all morphs into an unforgettable experience. You hear this music and you know something rotten is about to happen; it's time to run through the darkness. "Red Tape/ Agent Provocateur" is another cool little song, perfect for leather clad a vampire lounge.

In this soundtrack there's no subtle slithering in dark corridors, the music is eerie with an obvious feeling of approaching dread, you know that something big and bad is coming....Not every tracks it loud, some has whispers and monk's chanting, soft piano and violins ( "Eternity and a Day" for example), while others sound like an industrial revolution in the tombs occupied by the vampires. I totally loved it, highly recommended to fans of soundtracks and of fans this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another World For Underworld, August 15, 2005
This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
I loved this soundtrack. It was powerful when it needed to be and more ambient as well. I like this dual texture. I prefer moody yet touching and soft music, perfect for the horror writer. This soundtrack had both, also with the more dramatic action movie style. I would recommend it for those that want it all.

4.0 out of 5 stars this was worth the wait!, October 14, 2003

i couldn't believe that i overlooked Paul Haslinger as the composer for this score - i HAD to get it after finding that out! - when i did buy it i didn't waste time getting it out of the wrapping and playing it in my car ..... A STRONG INTRO i will say that - and trust me ..... this score has Paul Haslinger all over it!

i have been a crazed fan over the song Red Tape - i had a copy burned from the net and i couldn't understand why there was a sudden jump on my burned copy - then came the moment when i put in the CD and i let it play ..... THE TRANSITION WAS PERFECT!!! and then it made sense to me why my burned copy jumped - there was a instrumental piece playing before it

i gave it 4 stars only because of how quickly the tracks progress - don't get me wrong! - i understand why and i love the music - i just wish that some of the tracks were longer - but this is another masterpiece of Paul Haslinger ever since his previous album titled "Score"!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice soundtrack, March 23, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed this soundtrack. My favorite track is Eternity and a Day. Starts with delicate piano and crescendos into big sounding orchestra or maybe it's synthisizer or whatever but very nice. This is the scene after Selene killed Victor and it starts playing as she stands facing Michael and the other Lycans retreat. It represents this powerful moment of the two species comming together and not what it once seemed. I also enjoyed how the song Red Tape played throughout the trailers of this movie was included on the soundtrack. So many previews will have great music then nowhere on film. Now there are even companies that is what they do only provide short clips specifically for previews and really really stinks.

Beware of the sequel Underworld Evolution. It contained an extended version of Eternity and a day but is NOWHERE on that soundtrack. It is a different composer so that may have been why. The first movie had a more harsher sound representing the characters and scenes better than the sequel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good enough, worth the money and more!, December 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
I bought this CD before seeing the movie (as the vampire movies fan I am). It was a surprise to see that it was good enough by itself. The music tells a lot about the movie. Another "plus" is the addition of "Red Tape" by Agent Provocateur, which is the song we all heard in the trailer of the movie, eventhough that song does not belong to the soundtrack (weird!)... Anyway, the song is very good. I can't help to see the trailer images in my head when hear it... If you liked the movie buy this CD and forget about the other one (with just songs).

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing score!, December 31, 2004
This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
I don't often buy sound tracks, Braveheart, Rob Roy, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Daredevil, but I had to have Underworld's sound tracks.

There is such a dark, drim sexuality in the movie, and that is added by this pulsing, sensual, gothics score with tunes that are quite haunting.

If you enjoyed the movie, you really need the score, because they music will go around and around inside your head and drive you nuts until you get the soundtrack.

It rocks, it throbs, it bites!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Lustmørd, May 19, 2004

This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
What people seem to be forgetting is that Brian Williams of Lustmørd, and Jason Jones also worked on this soundtrack; not just Paul Haslinger.
Hence the darker sound to it.

Either way, it is nicely orchestrated; it won't change the idea of how movie scores are composed, although it should.
It's refined, at times, over-refined, meaning it starts to sound synthetic, but that doesn't take much away from it.
Needless to say, it's much better than the "Soundtrack."
Maynard failed on that one...
This album is void of pop-metal rubbish, and it doesn't ruin any Bowie songs.
You should be happy for that.

The music is great, tracks 6 and 19 respectively my favorites but I'd say the average song length is only 2 minutes. Defeinitely could use some extending. Worthwhile buy all the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, listenable soundtrack, March 28, 2006
This review is from: Underworld (Original Score) (Audio CD)
Though many people will not have seen Underworld, the soundtrack is a good solid soundtrack for those who collect movie soundtracks. Track 6 (Red Tape) is an excellent example of the trailer sound being included into the soundtrack after the film release (and since I have never heard of Agent Provocateur ever again, I can only assume that this was a onetime band put together for the film's production). If you HAVE seen the film, the soundtrack will bring back excellent memories and the sequencing of the tracks is very close to the sequence of the film. All in all, a good, solid collection of music from an average film.
