5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing conclusion to a intresting series!
I have read all four of the resident Evil books and beaten all 3 games. The books go into a lot more detail than the games and really helps you understand the story line. The final book in the series (thus far) is definately the most amazing. "Underworld" is a MUST READ for any true Resident Evil fan. The newly formed assult group goes to a new secret lab in...

3.0 out of 5 stars More Jurassic Park-ish than Resident Evil
I have played through the three Resident Evil (R.E.) adventures, and I am a big fan of the series. Which was why I set off looking to devour books on the R.E. series. If you're a hardcore R.E. fan, this would be one of the few books on the market that mention characters/organisations in the games, e.g. Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, STARS, Umbrella etc. It's an...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing conclusion to a intresting series!, November 19, 1999

This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read all four of the resident Evil books and beaten all 3 games. The books go into a lot more detail than the games and really helps you understand the story line. The final book in the series (thus far) is definately the most amazing. "Underworld" is a MUST READ for any true Resident Evil fan. The newly formed assult group goes to a new secret lab in Utah with the intent to steal a laptop computer that they hope will give them the upper hand in the battle against the Umbrella corperation. What they expect is a walk through the park, what the get is as far from it as possible....

5.0 out of 5 stars Go Deep into the Underworld and Know Fear, April 23, 2000
This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you're a fan of Resident Evil, I recommend this book. Umbrella is up to it's old evil tricks again. This time, our heroes have more inside help. S.D. Perry presents another orginal mysterious twist to the RE world. This story is told from the different point of views of the main characters. Best of all, the story doesn't conflict with RE:Code Veronica.

Some readers where disappointed that this story doesn't have any zombies. Please don't let this little detail steer you away from reading (and buying) this novel. In fact, I didn't realize the lack of zombies until I read the other customer reviews.

I highly recommend all four Resident Evil novels. I hope Ms. Perry get the chance to adapt Guyn Survivor, Code Veronica, and the upcoming REZero.

This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have played through the three Resident Evil (R.E.) adventures, and I am a big fan of the series. Which was why I set off looking to devour books on the R.E. series. If you're a hardcore R.E. fan, this would be one of the few books on the market that mention characters/organisations in the games, e.g. Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, STARS, Umbrella etc. It's an interesting take on what else the characters could have been up to before and after they were involved in the R.E. games, although sometimes it feels like the world in the book is in a separate, parallel dimension, with little in common besides the names of the characters.

The story in this book sounds like it belongs more in the world of Jurassic Park than Resident Evil. The main creatures in this book are bio-engineered monsters, not zombies as in the games. The link between Umbrella--a pharmaceutical company--and why they created monsters, is not explored fully. The general impression is a theme park for creatures, like in Jurassic Park.

If you're just looking for an adventure book to read, this book is a light, digestible tidbit for bedtime reading. The monsters won't give you nightmares, but the author manages to keep the story going at a fairly good pace. It kept my attention, but I couldn't help thinking that there were too many coincidences in the book, e.g. events that were just too convenient for the story. Character development is kept to a minimum--don't look for any breaking news on a character. The author did try a little romantic involvement, but that got buried in the action one-fifth into the story, and didn't return.

Overall, I would consider this an average adventure book with almost nothing to do with the R.E. games. Character and plot development aren't a serious consideration here, since the author is probably restricted by the storyline in the games. Instead, she has concentrated on a pure action book that has monsters, guns, and problems that require the team's attention.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of a side story to the novel series, October 13, 2003
This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Resident Evil: Underworld, the fourth installment in S.D. Perry's novelizations of the popular video game, finds the City of the Dead survivors (Leon and Claire) meeting up with Caliban Cove's survivors (Rebecca, David, and John) and infiltrating an underground Umbrella testing base. The group is thrown face first as would be test subjects against a handful of Umbrella's grotesque mutated beasts, and the novel ends with more of a whimper than a bang. Underworld is undoubtadly the least compelling installment in the novel series, and it works best as more of a side story to the events between City of the Dead and Nemesis. The stunning revelations about Trent towards the end of the book is worth the price of admission here alone, but otherwise keep this at the bottom of your Resident Evil novel wish list.

5.0 out of 5 stars What the book is basicly about, August 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
All the book is really about is what happens to Clair and Leon after the Racoon City problem. They met up with Ex-star members and go on a mission to get a special secert Umbrella black book that holds all the codes for secret umbrella activaties. If you dont understand what I'm saying please read the first 3 books first.

4.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil: Under-rated., June 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Well, now! That was an interesting ending...

No, I'm not gonna tell you.

After reading City Of The Dead, I was expecting this book to reveal what the surviving S.T.A.R.S. would do in Europe, but this was an excellent follow-up book to Caliban Cove. I suggest reading at least that one before you read this one. But I'm not you.

So go ahead. Read the series. Far too many people have turned their noses at this thrilling series already.

Your adrenaline glands will hate you for it, but your brain will love you forever.

Just don't read too hard, or your reaction time might suffer. Don't want to be eaten, do you?

5.0 out of 5 stars Just plain great!, January 11, 2004

This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book a year ago and i'm finaly writing a review.I have heard that some people hate this book because there are no zombies. I think it was a good to have the characters worry about wierd monsters, an evil villan (who is cool cuz he goes kind of crazy) and dudes with guns. The thing I liked the most about this book is that it goes into more detail of character's relationships (Leon and Claire). Which is interesting cuz I want to see their relationship grow stronger. I can't wait to reaad more, this series help me discover what type of books I like, those books are goreish blooding action type books they can be based on video games and have a little romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely one of the best books I've read this year, May 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
Basically, I think this book was one of the better books I've read so far this year. It had a very clear and vivid description of settings and characters, and it can almost make you believe that you are actually there with the characters. S.D. Perry is a very talented writer, and even though it was a fantastic novel, no doubt, but I just thought it would be better if she threw a little romance in there. You've got the mystery, the horror, the action, and a little romance would even it all out. I know some of you will probably disagree with me, and some of you will agree, but that's not the point. Personally, I think that Claire and Leon make a pretty cute couple (They're both young and good-looking, and it's quite obvious that they like each other) ;-). If you're a die-hard RE or RE2 fan, like I am, you'll like the book as much as I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite of the first four, March 26, 2011
This review is from: Underworld (Resident Evil #4) (Mass Market Paperback)
It's one thing to take an already established plot line and adapt it to a novel; it's quite another to create your own original story, which is what S. D. Perry has done with book #4 in the Resident Evil series. Underworld is a wonderful read you won't be able to put down.
