5.0 out of 5 stars Underworld:the rise of the lycans
First of all I haven't seen the movie yet. The book was great and if the movie is the same as the book, its going to be a hit.
I could'nt put the book down. It was easy to follow and kept me glue to the story. Learning about Sonja and Lucian and what the lycans were like was breath taking. And finding out about Viktor and how he treated his own daughter, he was...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but comes with flaws
If anyone has read the original prequel, Blood Enemy, you will find an error when you read Rise of the Lycans. In Blood Enemy, the beginning of the book has Lucian leading Lady Ilona (Viktor's wife/Sonja's mother) on a hunt for werewolves. When they return to the castle, Sonja (I think was a teenager at the time perhaps) greets her mother. In Rise of the Lycans, it...

This review is from: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Mass Market Paperback)
In Rise of the Lycans, it says that Lady Ilona died giving birth to Sonja. Also, there are many grammatical errors in this book. Other than those two things, the story is well written.

I really enjoyed reading the book. The only thing that was not mention was, who was Amelia and where did she come from?

Thank you,
Rachel

4.0 out of 5 stars Underworld of how it all began, January 2, 2009
This review is from: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book gives us the full scope of how the war between the vampires and the lycans began. The author captures it so well no wonder he has written all of the underworld stories. Thank you Mr. Cox for giving us what we wanted to know about how it all began. I am a true fan of all the underworld novels and movies.

3.0 out of 5 stars You'll Need This As "Cliff Notes", March 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Mass Market Paperback)
I seen the movie and could not figure out what the heck was going on so I got this book. Great "cliff notes"! It is actually a lot more detailed and explanatory than the movie. I highly recommend you read the book before you see the movie. Cox does an excellent job of bringing the screen to life and adds enough character detail and background that you get to know the characters more intimately. The story itself, (sorry Underworld fans) is kind of lame. I found it a bit eye rolling that Lucian (A wereworlf enslaved to the vampires) is so enamored with one of his slave holding "betters" (a vampire princess) that he refuses to even escape for love of her. And vice versa. I am not a romantic tho. A thought tho.. the sex scene was a little outrageous.. engorged member? Succulent rump? LOL

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like the movie then you'll love the book!, February 5, 2009

Okay, I read the book before I saw the movie. I would not say that it was a mistake, it's just that the book goes into so much more detail than the movie, however simialr they are. If you saw the movie and liked it definately read the book, it's well worth it!

1.0 out of 5 stars More pedestrian than a bad romance novel, February 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Mass Market Paperback)
Boy, this is bad. It's written like a second-rate romantic novel, including the term 'manhood'. We get bludgeoned with adjectives, most of them unsubtle. This story deserves so much better. The writing is bland and attempts to make up for it with too much telling rather than showing. We're told what the characters are feeling, not shown it. It reads like what would pass for good fanfic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Copyright Violation, January 23, 2010
This review is from: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is a copy of books by Llaurell Hamilton. In the Hamilton series we see "Anita Blake" fighting vampires and werewolves. She is part vampire herself in her late 20's early 30's and has sexual relations with both. Sound Familiar? Ms. Hamilton should sue the author and publisher as any Moron can see its Stolen Material.

I wish authors could be more original today but I guess I'm asking too much.

I'm normally not hard on books. But I haven't seen these movies in a while and the errors between the two are huge. Grammatical errors, enough for the average reader to be bothered. Some scenes were in deep detail others sped across. The battle scenes could have improved much with less detail. Add in the fact the author can't keep track of numbers, I won't ruin the scene, but his numbers keep changing during section. Oh and a serious time line issue is made at the end. Its huge!

I'm praying the movie is much better, I'm not even sure I'll waste the money to rent it at this point.

Books are normally better than the movie and if thats the case here the movie is doomed.
