Autumnal,
By A Customer
This review is from: Undone (Paperback)
Crafted poems; a decorous sensibility. I wish more books were rooted, as this one is, in the terra firma of the tradition, rather than pretending to be daring and groundbreaking.Probably no poet in English literary history has returned so insistantly, in poem after poem, to leaves, especially autumn leaves; this means that the cumulative effect of the poems is at least as important as the impression left by each individual one. Curious: A first book, but driven by the belatedness of autumn.

Heights, Depths, Beauty,
By A Customer
This review is from: Undone (Paperback)
Kim Bridgford's poems are wonderful. They draw you in with lucid, silken words, and then they offer you startling truths that resonate at the soul's depths. At every turn of their artful construction-in the next phrase, or line, or rhyme-you may find the poet waiting for you with new words to catch what you recognize, afresh, as the angst of being human. The regular beats of love and loss, death and renewed life, make up both the shocks and the surprising comforts of these poems. They are finely crafted, and they are also beautiful. The poet writes about sexual passion, children, old age, illness, absence, religion, ecstasy, death, memory, danger, hope-the core of human life. Throughout this book, Kim Bridgford sustains you with her honesty about pain as well as her ready humor that can make you laugh out loud. These are wise poems, to be kept and frequently re-visited.

Every poem is like a "pregnant pause"...couldn't wait for the next poem. One reading is not enough ...I found something new each time I read it through.
