5.0 out of 5 stars Genre-shattering.
Some may try to categorize the music on this CD as "classical". Others might call it "opera rock". Still others might label it "ambient".

But none of these labels fit the music created by Franz and Helmut. The tunes are mostly a mix of hard rock and classical. This might sound like an odd combination, but it truly works.

3.0 out of 5 stars Distinct but lacking
'Unearthed' is one of those albums that invigorates initially, but eventually shows its true colors after its artificial guise no longer appears to fool. It's a classic tale of style over substance.

This is pop music, with a twist. Or so it seems. It's not a bad strategy, really, and by and large it's reasonably successful at what it is (not to be confused...

But none of these labels fit the music created by Franz and Helmut. The tunes are mostly a mix of hard rock and classical. This might sound like an odd combination, but it truly works.

Some of the songs force you to sit still and listen. Antissa, Harappa, Ulaid, Estremoz and Isfahan are fine examples of this. They all sound as if they could have been lifted from dramatic scenes in a movie.
Other songs on this CD will make it impossible for you to sit still. You'll immediately want to crank the volume and get going. Tikal, Lepcis Magna, Menouthis, and Pompeii are impossible to sit through without moving. (Note: NEVER play Menouthis in your car. You WILL get a speeding ticket. *sigh* I have proof.)
And then there are the tracks that fall somewhere in between these two extremes. Ebla, Nara, Cuzco, and Nineveh are not as light as some, but not as driving as the others. You'll recognize Nara the instant you hear it. It's the main theme for the TV Show "Cold Case" and has been used in many movie trailers and teasers.

I can't praise this CD enough. It's truly in a genre all of its own and was exactly what I was looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars E.S. Posthumus Unearthed, November 27, 2005

This review is from: Unearthed (Audio CD)
E.S. Posthumus consists of two very talented brothers, Helmut and Franz Vonlichten. They've apparently created a lot of film music for television and movie trailers but I had never heard of them until an online friend of mine so graciously exposed me to this amazing duo, and needless to say I was blown away.

The songs herein contain dramatic and emotional cinematic scores that are dark yet lushly beautiful with electronic sensibilities. What I mean by that is there are climatic strings and intense choral singing that'll cause the hair on your arms to stand straight, just as a good movie trailer might do. However, it's magnified by modern sounding beats and much eclecticism (influences ranging from Celtic, Gregorian, Middle Eastern, and Egyptain, just to name a few) that'll likely appeal to fans of Deep Forest, Enigma, and even Enya. Throw in a dash of Rob Dougan for a harder edge and you've got yourself one unique journey full of epic proportions.

I can't express enough my love for this artist. I have had this for quite some time and it's still one of my favourite albums, and definitely one of the best orchestrated works that I have in my collection. Every piece is very well done, and makes me feel warm and tingly inside. :)

I recommend this to anyone that likes soundtracks, orchestral pieces, ambient music, new age, or just a good groove.

Wonderful album designed for the cinema, and it comes to no suprise that almost every track on this album has been used in several movies. E.S. Posthumus use great samples and beutifully mix them in with their string scores.

This is music as it should be... but sometimes i am glad it isn't. for if this became "popular" it would devalue the word, Music. thank you E.S. Posthumus for your contribution to a greater art.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, July 5, 2008

I was cooking one day with AOL online radio playing on my computer on the New Age channel as I always do. The songs were pleasant but did not catch my attention. Nara comes on, and everything changes. I stop what I was doing and rush to my computer to see what this marvelous music is. I kept the name in mind. It happened again with other songs and I soon realized, I need to have this CD!

The music is compelling, enticing, powerful and speaks volumes even though most songs have no words. To me, perfection is heard through every note, and I often just close my eyes to enjoy it entirely, getting a few chills along the way. Anyone who loves new age, opera, rock, classical and lite music can appreciate this. To say the least, it doesn't surprise me it has been used in movies. Not to mention, the astounding low number of used CD's goes to show not many would be willing to return it. I know I wouldn't.

Aside from everything else, its versatility is also something I enjoy greatly. I can use it to jam in the car, soothe me on a stressful day and just when I feel like giving my ears a treat. Perfect music for just about any occasion. I have nothing bad to say about this collection!

Very "aggressive/powerful" sounding instrumental music. I love "Nara" and "ulaid" because they are so refreshing/ peaceful / haunting all at the same time. this music has a ton of energy to it. go ahead and expand your musical boundries!

The first song I heard from this CD is Nara. When I went to see the movie Time Machine, the theater played Unfaithful trailer. Nara was almost used through the whole trailer. I was really impressed with the music, so I searched it on Amazon, Unfortunately Amazon didn't have Unearthed then, so I ordered it from E.S. Posthumus Official site. It proved that other songs in Unearthed didn't disappoint me. Now Amazon has the album and it has cheaper price. People who like the movie trailer music will be satisfied with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Life's Soundtrack, December 23, 2008
This review is from: Unearthed (Audio CD)
This was very helpful. I love all kinds of music. This reviews reminds me of how I felt the first time I heard "Unearthed". On my, it took me so long to find who made the song, let me tell you how I found it.
I was watching a dvd, and I usally skip dvd previews, if I want to see a preview I will go to the movie theater. But this one day I was watching a movie trailer, it turned out to be "Unfaithful". The music started off with Moby, whom I love, but then, the dramatic turn came in a "Nara" came on, I was transended, or let my body, I floated around the world, I have never heard something so emotionally charged, and powerful before. I was like the perfect blend of all my music put together right there. I searched high and low for information on the song. I wore out that part of the dvd, listening to that portion of the trailer. So then one day, I discovered a soundtrack website, that kept track of movie preview music. They stated, Moby was the first song and "Nara by E.S. Posthumus was the second. So I have to go outside of my neighborhood to find music I like, I went to every music store in Chicago, no one knew what I was talking about. Now, I don't remember where I got it from, but one day I had it, I had got a reference from the Greek CD shop, the owner told me to contact this one man who might know, low and behold the kind man had and was willing to sell it to me, that is how I got my copy of E.S. Posthumus, and it is the best CD EVER. It has now become a permanent part of my life's soundtrack. Thanks, for this review, I will have to get this today.
