Disappearing Civil Liberties Mug

...and I didn't even wash it in the dishwasher! A few washings in the sink was all it took and I've now got a white mug with some errant letters on it.

A rather expensive wash-out...

i was very disappointed when i used this mug for the first time. it didnt do anything and there was already clear overcoat coming off the letters. i hand washed it after that first use, and half of my rights washed away right down the drain. i was really looking forward to using this when a far left goofball was coming to visit, and it never did anything it said it would. if id of known this, i wouldve bought a plain white mug for a couple bucks, rather then waste $15 on this. if anyone knows of one of these types of mugs that work, please let me know where u got it. id like to purchase one.

First of all, I KNOW it's not supposed to go in the dishwasher, we don't even USE a dishwasher. My boyfriend had this and after a few months all the letters fell off. So I bought him a replacement, and after just washing it in plain hot water with soap, the words came off. It's ruined. So now we have two plain white mugs with black handles. This replacement one I bought, the words wouldn't even disappear, they just lightly lightly faded with hot coffee in it.

I got this for my husband, and I have been hand washing it. It was hand washed about 3 times, and then the letters fell off. It is not sealed very well. Do not leave it in water or in the sink. I paid 15 bucks ( with shipping ) for plain mug!! Had I know this I would never have purchased it!!!

i treated this mug with so much care and even so the letters fell off on the second wash... it was very disappointing because i really loved the mug :(

This was a gift for my mom. She enjoyed it a lot, the liberties disappeared along with her cup of coffee or tea. I saw some of the reviews saying that the letters end up peeling off, so I told her to only handwash it. She did, and it still came off. It's an awesome idea, but it could be made better.

This is a great little mug, gave me quite a chuckle when I poured coffee in it and sure enough, my civil liberties began to fade and disappear.
Unfortunately, my son ran it through a cycle in the dishwasher and my liberties vanished forever!!

I'm buying another one for the latest lawyer in the family with the warning: " Liberties at stake..DO NOT PUT IN THE DISHWASHER! HAND WASH ONLY!"

For the reviewer who asked what we're doing to the "poor mug": uh, washing it gently. I don't even have a dishwasher and I used a teflon scrubber on the inside of the mug and the lip. Like many customers, the letters came off after a few washings anyway. Waste of money.

These mugs from Unemployed Philosopher's Guild are great. I have the Dr. Who mug for my office. As a piece of advice, only use this item for HOT drinks. Anything cold will cause condensation and create a "soaking" effect on the mug and I've chipped some bits off of mine because of that. So the directions included with the mug are there for a reason! Don't soak it; don't throw it in the dishwasher. -Just wish they said "hot drinks only" but I still love the mug and plan on getting this one as a gift.

What a great idea! I love these disappearing mugs! I have one that shows what the world will look like once the polar ice caps melt. I bought this one for my lawyer boyfriend, but like most lawyers he was stubborn and didn't believe the instructions on the box that say explicitly not to put this mug in the dishwasher. He also put it in the microwave. I'm not sure which process actually ruined the mug, but the combination was more than fatal. All of the writing came off and now it's just a boring white mug. The bottom line? Be gentle with these mugs!
