5.0 out of 5 stars Expected, August 12, 2007
By JOHN F. "Barkless Dog" (oak brook, il United States) - See all my reviews
For those of you that search for hiddens gems, The Lucky Bishops are among the finest. Music that is twisted, inventive and spot on in it's content. Why the the Lucky Bishops are not a house hold word is beyond me. If you want to know whats wrong with the corporate music world listen to their top 40 crap, then listen to the Lucky Bishops.

Music that will last a long time in your playlist as well. London Lounge is one of my favorite songs. A band worth searching for. Be sure to check out their video for The London Lounge as well.

A great effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easter meets Yes, April 15, 2007
By J. Lippold "jacklip" (st. louis, mo United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
For those of you who understand what-the-h I'm talking, picture this: the angular melodicism of a Mitch Easter or an Alex Chilton combined with the unpredictable, yet pop-friendliness of a Scott Miller (the Loud Family one) and the swirling acrobatics of Yes. If you can picture that, then you can get some idea of what's going on with the Lucky Bishops' "Unexpect the Expected".
Each of the group's 4 members (Strawbridge, Murphy, Hughes and Adams) take turns as the sole song-writer and are all up to the task. The possible exception is Adams' murky and insular "Witches" which seems out-of-place sandwiched between two hook-intensive bits of ear-candy. Before "Witches" is Hughes' "Guia de Conversacion" a sort of Spanish lesson set to music. A rather goofy concept, but the LBs pull it off with glorious tunage and arrangements that one-up themselves at every turn. After "Witches", Adams does redeem himself with the glorious "K2" that appears later in the record.
As a perfect closer, the album ends with the hoedown-tinged "No Worries".
"Unexpect the Expected" is an appealing organic mix of guitar and keyboards - an if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it formula that has worked for over 40 years now.
