5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, October 3, 2006
This review is from: Unexpected Complication : 9 Months Later (Harlequin SuperRomance No. 1342) (Mass Market Paperback)
Carey's broken up with her boyfriend, Jarrod, when she unexpectedly carrying his baby. Her best friend Devin, Jarrod's cousin, doesn't get along with Jarrod, and never felt his cousin was good enough for Carey. As a matter of fact, he's come to the conclusion the man he'd like to see Cary with is...himself. But is he man enough to take his cousin's baby and raise it as his own?

Love is complicated enough, but Carey and Devin's relationship has to navigate more than its share of pitfalls. Can love win out?

Knupp's first book is a wonderful story that left me anxious for her next release.

4.0 out of 5 stars It'll tug at your heart strings!, January 17, 2007

This review is from: Unexpected Complication : 9 Months Later (Harlequin SuperRomance No. 1342) (Mass Market Paperback)
After breaking it off with boyfriend Jerod a month earlier, photographer Carey discovers that she's pregnant and returns to her Iowa roots. Though she knows there is no future with Jerod, she decides to keep the baby and debates on whether to tell him about it. She reluctantly confides in her best friend Devin, who happens to be Jerod's cousin, and the cousins have a real love-hate relationship. Devin has also had an unrequited crush on Carey since high school, but she has never seen him as more than a friend.

As her pregnancy develops, so do her feelings for Devin. Seeing this as a last opportunity to get together with the woman he has worshipped for years, Devin must struggle with whether his love for Carey outweighs his hatred for his cousin, and whether he could accept the other man's child as his own.

"Unexpected Complication" is an unexpected pleasure. A "superromance" with a developed plot and back story, it's packs an emotional wallop that'll tug at your heartstrings.

5.0 out of 5 stars fascinating relationship drama, April 13, 2006
International freelance photographer Carey Langford is back home in Iowa pregnant with no boyfriend having ended her relationship with Jerod last month. She debates with herself who she should tell, but rules out everyone except her long time best friend Devin Colyer, Jerod's cousin.

However, she even hesitates turning to Devin because she knows he hates Jerod. Still she needs to confide in someone so she tells Devin. After the initial shock passes, Devin, who has loved Carey since high school and would do almost anything for her, has problems with the fact that she is carrying Jerod's child. Still this is his beloved and he must decide whether to tell her how he feels, which also means loving someone else's offspring or losing his last opportunity with Carey.

The relationship between Carey and Devin make this an interesting character study with a strong romantic subplot. Devin has always wanted Carey, but she has always seen him as a close friend. Now he has an opportunity to be more, but has doubts about raising someone else's child, especially the offspring of a person he loathes. Fans will enjoy watching his actions and reactions towards the woman he loves and the innocent unborn she carries. Amy Knupp provides a fascinating relationship drama.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!, April 10, 2006

This review is from: Unexpected Complication : 9 Months Later (Harlequin SuperRomance No. 1342) (Mass Market Paperback)
Carey Langford's footloose life as a freelance photographer changes when she discovers she's pregnant. She's already broken up with the baby's father, who isn't daddy material. Her best friend, Devin Colyer, could be daddy material, especially since he realizes he loves Carey, but he can't get past the fact that the baby's father is the cousin he hates.

But as Carey's stomach grows, so does their attraction. Will they both discover an unexpected complication brings an unexpected love?

UNEXPECTED COMPLICATION was a delight. The characters came to life, Carey and Devin so real I felt I knew them by the end of the book and was rooting for them to get together. The conflict keeping them apart was realistic. I loved Carey's "making the best of whatever happens" attitude. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Amy Knupp.

UNEXPECTED COMPLICATION by Amy Knupp
April 27, 2006

Amazon rating 4/5

"Carey Langford's best friend is Devin Colyer. One of the few things they argue about is the boyfriend she just broke up with, his cousin Jerrod. Jerrod and Devin's antagonistic relationship goes way back to a time when Devin felt that his parents favored his cousin over him. Devin was not the son his parents had wanted, and while Jerrod reaped their love and admiration, Devin felt left out in the cold, especially after their accidental deaths. He felt he could never please them.

Carey made the mistake of dating Jerrod for a few months, and now she's pregnant with his child. Jerrod wants nothing to do with her or the baby, and Devin isn't sure whether he should be happy about this, or angry. In the meantime, Devin's grandfather's health is slowly deteriorating, and Devin wants to show him that he can also be a success in business. While Devin is busy trying to get his computer business on track, Carey needs to figure out how to support herself and a baby with a limited income. She's currently living in her brother's house, but can't continue to do so. Her goal is to start her own photography studio (she currently works freelance) to bring in extra income.

As Carey struggles to come up with a financial plan, Devin watches her closely. He's been in love with her for years, but she doesn't know it." - Complete review at BookLoons - M. Lofton

I enjoyed this harlequin superromance, with its interesting mix of characters. The focus was more on the male lead, Devin, than on Carey, which I found refreshing.
Recommended.

I am not normally a romance reader, but I have to say that I loved this book. I was very intrigued by the characters and was left wondering what the outcome would be until the very end. I think that Amy Knupp is a great up and coming writer with a lot of potential. I will be sure to keep her on my watch list.
