Top Notch Researchers !,
By William Ray (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unexplained Mysteries of the 20th Century (Paperback)
Beyond Cryptozoology, past the paranormal, you name it these authors cover it. A fine collection of everything you have wondered about and many things you may have never known about. I don't want to give too much away, but this is much more than a fact filled book full of cold boring dates, the authors insight reveals and stimulates thought. An exciting and unique collection of the unexplained not found in any other book! (Also recommended is Jerry D. Coleman's "Strange Highways" also found here at Amazon.com)

This book provided me with many hours and hours of fun. It has an extensive list of strange events and weird creatures that have been seen (and allegedly seen.) It isn't filled with nonsense talk like "One day the world may come to an end if we don't turn to our space brothers who enjoy probing our butts."
It is a historical record of events (which may or may not have happened) and neatly categorized. It is definitely worth buying if you can afford it.

This listing of a wide variety of weird phenomenon with an index of places is very helpful for the field occultist. If you are interested in odd happenings that may have happened in YOUR HOME TOWN, you may find something in here that interests you!

Former Skeptic,

This review is from: Unexplained Mysteries of the 20th Century (Paperback)
With 17 widely varying topics such as Religious Phenomena and invisible assailants this book offers something for everyone. Of course most of the topics deal with subject matter that most people dismiss, the research and eyewitness accounts make great food for thought.
The 85 plus photographs and drawings add to the `reality' of this compilation. Certain chapters could have contained additional photographs but overall I was satisfied with the ones included. As a former die-hard skeptic, I had a drastic mind-changing experience about 15 years ago when my wife and I witnessed a giant, silver saucer sitting in a field hovering just above the tree line. Needless to say, I no longer scoff at such so-called phenomena. The casual reader as well as the research type will enjoy this well made book. I greatly appreciate the work the authors put into compiling and editing this 400 page book. I hope you find my opinion helpful. Michael L. Gooch Author of Wingtips with Spurs

This book is my absolute favorite. It is well written, well documented, and very comprehensive in it's coverage of many popular subjects related to the unexplained. Whether you read it straight through or use it as a reference, it is well worth the price, and will earn a place of prominence in any library. I very strongly recommend that you check this book out!

This book offers a vivid accounts of various unexplained mysteries with useful comments and analysis. However, not all of them are really very interesting except for ghosts and hauntings, ball lighting and spook lights and religious phenomena.
The country-by-country gazetteer of strange events are good references. I am surprised to find reports of sea monster offshore and big dark cat-like animal in my home town (Hong Kong) from the gazetteer. On the whole, it is good read!

An Encyclopedia of the Weird,
By tgfabthunderbird (York, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Unexplained Mysteries of the 20th Century (Paperback)
The Bords have produced an encyclopedia, desk reference type of book which chronicles as many sightings and encounters as possible.
The book is divided up into varied creatures, lake monsters, etc., and is a vast storehouse of reports, though whether or not many of these can be verified I don't know. Nearly every nation in the world has had strange events, and some of these are familiar, while others border on the comical. A good reference for the fan of the mysterious, the paranormal or the wannabe cryptozoologist.

Let me tell you, I ordered about 5 books at once. I skimmed through each, and found this one the worse. Then I read all 5, this one last, and this was the best one! It was done with only recorded incidents involving the criteria, and every subject was amazing. I definately recommend this one, if you're into anything paranormal.

If you are thinking about buying this book, do it. Very entertaining read, covers a LOT of subjects. A few minor inaccuracies here and there hardly detract from it's readability.
