Book Description

February 2003
William Shakespeare’s "star-crossed lovers" suffered the torment of unfortunate twists of fate in "Romeo and Juliet." Likewise, for the main characters of Unforgettable that offers the story of a couple bound with love but burdened with an unlucky destiny. But this heartbreaking novel by new author Frederick A. Babb has a positive outcome with proceeds from his book being donated to the American Cancer Society.

"Unforgettable" has never been so fitting for a book as it is for this. This moving love story is told thought the eyes of a timid young high school boy named Charles Marshall, who narrates his tale of how he met and fell in love with the lady that would become, not just his high school sweetheart, but also the love of his life. Her name is Cindy Beck and she touches the life of Charles in such a way that no lady would ever be able to replace her. The story is slated in the environment of growing up in a small town in Arizona. Charles points out that this has both its high and low moments, but mostly it lends a very special atmosphere to this exceptionally charming romantic tale. Charles remembers how he and Cindy spent their high school days crossing many adventures such as training for the "Miss Rodeo Queen" contest, overcoming his shyness to join her on stage at school to sing a duet and special times like Christmas and New Years as their love for one another deepens in their idyllic high school years.

Unforeseen interweaving of the reality of growing up presents a cruel path of fate that creates emotional and physical turmoil in their lives following graduation from high school. Despite this, the devotion of love shared by these two young lovers eventually proves its power for transcending all obstacles -- even death. "Unforgettable" may well have you shedding tears of release by the end of the book, as it has done for so many readers. This book as the potential to help you to renovate your conviction in the power that love has, and will make you more aware of what really is important to you in life -- making it unforgettable.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Frederick A. Babb is a first time author who has talent beyond his experience. His book has been a constant bestseller for us since its release. His first novel gives a very moving and emotional account of a beautifully told romance between two young people who have to confront all barriers, even death, to realize that true love is unforgettable.

From the Author

This book is one project that I had never wished to write. I would have traded all the work and effort to bring this book to life for the life of Cindy Marshall. But this cannot ever be and, thus, I was pushed to create this story in hopes that her memory will live on pass the days she was robbed when she passed away young. I would have preferred to have written my first novel about something totally imaginative and entertaining, however, the memory of a person very dear and special to me was the driving force behind this novel. To loose someone special is difficult; to loose someone special at a young age from a deadly disease is unbearable. This novel was written to help come to terms with this loss and to help the healing process. I hope that the readers find this book as unforgettable as the lady that inspired it was to me.

I have been overwhelmed with the feedback that I have received from readers who have purchased this book. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would have been able, not to just arouse the interest of people, but to be able to touch their emotions in such a positive way. Readers from around the world have contacted me to comment on how this book has opened up the hurt and sorrow within in them and helped them to confront the lost they have suffered.

For the memory of this lady and for the memory of all those people who have had their time cut short with no explanation, I have dedicated proceeds from this book to the American Cancer Society to help prevent such tragedies in the future. For each of those readers that choose to buy this book, you can do so knowing that you are making a difference in the fight against cancer. For those people, I send sincere thanks and may God bless you for making an effort in the fight against this disheartening disease.

3.0 out of 5 stars In memory of you, July 29, 2003
This review is from: Unforgettable (Paperback)
"After looking deep into her eyes just before we departed that day, I knew right there and then that she was the one that had captured me. That feeling cannot be placed into words and I would never attempt to try."

Charles Marshall is in love with a beautiful girl named Cindy Beck. He knows he has to write her and tell her how he feels, but he is rather shy. After overcoming his shyness he writes her a simple note. Soon the two meet and fall madly in love. This story follows their lives through high school and then up their engagement.

Then the unthinkable occurs.

This is book will be interesting to anyone who is considering joining the military or who is experiencing a separation from the one they love. It also gives some insight into the thoughts of a person in pain. The way in which Charles is not able to connect emotionally shows how hurt he was. He probably broke a lot of hearts on his journey to find the love of his life. That first love he lost. How could anyone compare?

Before I left, we kissed one last time to finish a memorable night. She whispered into my ear, "Never forget our promise. I will always love you."

A sad story of everlasting love that wasn't meant to last. This book is written from Charles' perspective and is his memory of the woman he loved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you believe in Endless Love?, November 18, 2003
This review is from: Unforgettable (Paperback)
Experiencing love is something that we all live for, whether we realize it or not. For without love, our life is empty and incomplete. If you want to experience a touching story about Love--a pure, first love inundating with sincerity and respect, read UNFORGETTABLE. This book tells the story of true love from the heart of Charles Marshall--a shy, teenage boy who, when he first saw the lovely Cindy Beck knew instantly, "That event changed the destiny of my life forever. Never again would I look at the world the same way." Isn't that what love does?

He HAS to tell her how he feels, especially since his "investigations" turn out to his liking. She has no boyfriend or hidden family secret; she's just beautiful, as he already knew, and has a wonderful personality. Charles decides to tell her "everything...in a note." The priceless note to Cindy is simple yet conveys all he wishes he could say to her face but is too shy to. It is the kind of note all women wish to receive. There are various events this young couple shares: two of my favorite being the talent show in which they sing to each other; as well as the camping trip in which Cindy reassures Charles when he lovingly whispers in her ear for her to never leave him with, "I will never, ever leave you. I promise for all eternity." Through it all, their unbreakable bond and unfaltering support of each other is what makes their love grow so deep and meaningful to them both (and to the reader.) There is wrenching pain and bottomless sorrow in the story but love is worth the pain. I've always believed that. Cindy kept her promise, for one doesn't have to be with another physically to cherish them forever in the spiritheart. Once you love, you can't stop loving. If you can, you never truly loved them in the first place.

For someone to write a story so precious is a noble and courageous thing and he is to be commended. My thanks to you, Frederick Babb. I can't wait to read your next book, TORN!

Soar! That's what anyone that ever truly loved you would want you to do. And you should, for them and yourself.

If you are looking for a page-turner about innocent romance that focus more on the relationship than on the materialist world, then look no further. This author has proven on his first time out that he is ready to add a new dimension to the romance novel world. I would highly recommend that anyone who wants to share a love so pure as Cindy and Charles buy this book and enjoy a simplier time in your love life when your love was more important than the distractions of the real world. Thank you 1st Books for giving this author a chance.
