"After looking deep into her eyes just before we departed that day, I knew right there and then that she was the one that had captured me. That feeling cannot be placed into words and I would never attempt to try."

Charles Marshall is in love with a beautiful girl named Cindy Beck. He knows he has to write her and tell her how he feels, but he is rather shy. After overcoming his shyness he writes her a simple note. Soon the two meet and fall madly in love. This story follows their lives through high school and then up their engagement.

Then the unthinkable occurs.

This is book will be interesting to anyone who is considering joining the military or who is experiencing a separation from the one they love. It also gives some insight into the thoughts of a person in pain. The way in which Charles is not able to connect emotionally shows how hurt he was. He probably broke a lot of hearts on his journey to find the love of his life. That first love he lost. How could anyone compare?

Before I left, we kissed one last time to finish a memorable night. She whispered into my ear, "Never forget our promise. I will always love you."

A sad story of everlasting love that wasn't meant to last. This book is written from Charles' perspective and is his memory of the woman he loved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you believe in Endless Love?, November 18, 2003
This review is from: Unforgettable (Paperback)
Experiencing love is something that we all live for, whether we realize it or not. For without love, our life is empty and incomplete. If you want to experience a touching story about Love--a pure, first love inundating with sincerity and respect, read UNFORGETTABLE. This book tells the story of true love from the heart of Charles Marshall--a shy, teenage boy who, when he first saw the lovely Cindy Beck knew instantly, "That event changed the destiny of my life forever. Never again would I look at the world the same way." Isn't that what love does?

He HAS to tell her how he feels, especially since his "investigations" turn out to his liking. She has no boyfriend or hidden family secret; she's just beautiful, as he already knew, and has a wonderful personality. Charles decides to tell her "everything...in a note." The priceless note to Cindy is simple yet conveys all he wishes he could say to her face but is too shy to. It is the kind of note all women wish to receive. There are various events this young couple shares: two of my favorite being the talent show in which they sing to each other; as well as the camping trip in which Cindy reassures Charles when he lovingly whispers in her ear for her to never leave him with, "I will never, ever leave you. I promise for all eternity." Through it all, their unbreakable bond and unfaltering support of each other is what makes their love grow so deep and meaningful to them both (and to the reader.) There is wrenching pain and bottomless sorrow in the story but love is worth the pain. I've always believed that. Cindy kept her promise, for one doesn't have to be with another physically to cherish them forever in the spiritheart. Once you love, you can't stop loving. If you can, you never truly loved them in the first place.

For someone to write a story so precious is a noble and courageous thing and he is to be commended. My thanks to you, Frederick Babb. I can't wait to read your next book, TORN!

Soar! That's what anyone that ever truly loved you would want you to do. And you should, for them and yourself.

If you are looking for a page-turner about innocent romance that focus more on the relationship than on the materialist world, then look no further. This author has proven on his first time out that he is ready to add a new dimension to the romance novel world. 5.0 out of 5 stars Restore Your Faith in True Love, May 13, 2003
This review is from: Unforgettable (Paperback)
"Unforgettable" lives up to its name, and then some. This poignant love story is told from the point of view of a shy young man named Charles, who tells the tale of how he met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Cindy. While growing up in a small town in Arizona has both good and bad points, it lends a very special atmosphere to this exceptionally sweet love story. Charles helps Cindy train for the "Miss Rodeo Queen" contest, and overcomes his shyness to join her on stage at school to sing a duet. Cindy and Charles also share special time together on picnics, parties, dances, and camping as their love for one another deepens in their idyllic high school years.

Unexpected twists and turns of fate cause emotional and physical upheaval in Cindy and Charles' lives following graduation from high school. Even so, the romance shared by these two young lovers eventually proves its power for transcending all obstacles -- even death. "Unforgettable" may well have you crying tears of release by the end of the book, as it did for me. This book will help restore your faith in the power of love, and will bring you a greater sense of what really matters in life -- making it unforgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A life changing experience, April 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Unforgettable (Paperback)
Well I read your book yesterday. I decided to wait until the anniversary of my wife's death. Maybe a mistake, I don't know. But anyway, I hated it. I did not hate the book, rather I thoroughly enjoyed it. But I hated the pain and the hurt and emotions it brought out. There were so many memories from the past. I hated the pain of remembering. The hurt of, at the age of 25, finding what true unconditional love really was and the emotions of losing that after 22 wondrous years. My late wife made me promise that I wouldn't put my emotions away again and go back inside myself. I didn't realize how much I had put away from every one and even from myself. Your book brought out all of this. I bawled like a little kid during and after reading it. I didn't know I had so much dammed up inside of me. But I needed to release it all, and now that I have I feel an inner peace that I haven't felt in a long time. So I guess this book was about the best therapy I could have gotten anywhere. I know the author understands losing a loved one, and I feel so sad for him and his loss. So thanks for this book, I've unburdened myself of a lot of self induced pain. And now I really am ready to love and live again. Thank you for writing a very emotional book. Even though I hated what it forced out of me, I love what it brought back out of me, my old self. This book I will treasure forever. And I plan on reading it time and again. The author did an excellent job. I'm going to give a copy to my Hospice worker, so maybe she'll understand more about what it is like to lose some one you love besides family. She tried to help our support group but admitted herself that it was hard to understand as she had never experienced it herself. I think this book will help a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Simple and unforgettable, September 30, 2003
This review is from: Unforgettable (Paperback)
It must be love at first sight and is meant to be. Chuck Marshall and Cindy Beck are high school sweethearts who aspire to succeed in life and build a family together. An unexpected twist of fate shatters their dreams and brings about irrepressible laments.

Like many teenagers, Chuck and Cindy hold part-time jobs, long for their driver's licenses that signify near adulthood, and cram for schoolwork at the library after school. Like many unhappy families, Chuck's family is unhappy in its own unique way. His parents are not only cold but also uncaring and nonchalant, waiting for him to graduate from high school and get out of the house. Unlike many teenagers, Chuck and Cindy remain true to their values that they are unwilling to lie about going camping on their own. Honestly helps Chuck earn favor in the eyes of Cindy's father who reassures his trust in the young couple.

The novel takes the young couple through the growing-pain times of high school where they have the thrills and challenge of Cindy competing in Miss Rodeo Queen for which Cindy trains strenuously at the stable for seven months. It is through the rodeo contest that the teenagers learn about the true meaning of happiness lies not on winning but the company. Another unforgettable, throbbing moment is the school talent show in which Chuck and Cindy perform a timeless duet "Endless Love." The teenagers reassure their love for one another and that Venus has witnessed their unfailing love.

Up to the point when the couple graduate from high school and Chuck decides to join the Air Force in order to see the world, I am somewhat disappointed at the predictable, too-good-to-be-true story however profusely the love story has enthralled me. No sooner has Chuck joined the military, endured the turmoil in boot camp and awaited an overseas assignment than the novel takes a twisted, convoluted turn that triggers a shocking impact in the aspiring couple's lives. Is it really meant to be? Is unbearable grief really necessary to bring each floating bit of memory and love to full actuality?

The writing is simplistic, trimmed to the bone, with no satiating garnish and lyrical prose styling (which I normally savor in literature and historical fiction). The twist in the plot toward the final third somehow redeems the predictable, straightly chronological narrative. The reading experience is comparable to watching a one-hour television episode of a bittersweet romance. The book is meant to be unforgettable. A noteworthy debut. 3.5 stars.

This book is just incredible. It told a beautiful story while offering sound insights on what life holds while demonstrating young love through the eyes of Charles. Cindy was one fortune lady in the book to have had a wonderful boyfriend like Charles. It makes me want to relive my high school days again. I can't wait for this author's next book. I recommend it for young people who can learn a lot on what life has to offer and I think everyone who enjoy touching stories will be grateful in reading this one.
