THE ROSE TATTOO

SHE'D LOST HER PAST…

DeLancey Jones was the Rose Tattoo's new star chef, but her past had a few missing ingredients…like childhood. Her memories began at age fifteen, with a searing scene that made her afraid to remember the rest. Now the woman who sheltered her is dead—and DeLancey must uncover her previous identity….

COULD HE FIND THEIR FUTURE?

Matthew Tanner's job—and gift—was solving mysteries that baffled the experts. But the closer he got to DeLancey, the more he feared the answers he sought. At the heart of this mystery was a woman who stirred him as no one ever had. Did finding her past threaten their future?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story--Needs Work in the Telling, July 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Unforgettable Night (The Rose Tatoo, Book 9) (Harlequin Intrigue Series #477) (Mass Market Paperback)
"Unforgettable Night" is one of Kelsey Roberts most original Rose Tattoo books, frequently entertaining, although it could use a little work. In the beginning, I was dreading it: the entire opening is just page upon page of dialogue with little or no narration (a tendency that carried throughout), and while plenty of the lines (as always) were good, it did get old after a while. However, once the story (finally) kicked in, it definitely "intrigued," culminating in an ending that was both satisfying, well played-out, and fully explained(!). Add in the fact that this isn't a male cop/lady lawyer pairing, and it's a nice change of pace. My only hesitation is that, while the characters came to life, sometimes I had trouble picturing their surroundings and such. If only Ms. Roberts had written a little more narration to go with that dialogue... (And the preview of her next book in the back of this one--two full pages of nothing but dialogue--makes me fear this isn't going to change anytime soon.)

I have to agree with the "Romantic Times" 3 star review on this one: there was a lot of good things about it, but the writing could have been tightened up. Still, this is the first Rose Tattoo book in quite some time (since "The Tall, Dark Alibi) that I've felt like keeping. Perfect for a light, good read. Just not a great one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous read, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Unforgettable Night (The Rose Tatoo, Book 9) (Harlequin Intrigue Series #477) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kelsey Roberts does it again with a fabulous story that draws the reader into the situation right from the very first page. Imagine waking up in a cemetary! Wonderfully inventive. This is another of her extremely clever plots with funny, lively dialogue that fans like me have come to love and expect. A must read.

This book grabs you at the start and doesn't let go until the very end. It is beautifully written, has a yummy hero and is one of the best books I've read by this author.
