What an album. I mean, really. This is genius. Sometimes it thrashes, sometimes it grooves, all times it pleases. Listening to this makes you just want to smash everything. Breakdown-Tracks 1-4. Simple, effective. They set the mood for the rest of the album. Track 5. Beautiful. Fast and chaotic, reminds you that yes, this band is called Curl Up And Die, and they will kill you at a second's notice. Track 6. More chaos. Great groove at the end. Track 7. I can't possibly say enough about this track. The end groove section insights violence like nothing ever has. Track 8. Another great one. Cool technical ending. Track 9. Back to good ol' speedy hardcore. Track 10. A ballad of sorts. Nice and long. Great drums. Track 11-15. All great. Not much special about any certain one, but all wonderful anyway. BUY THE ALBUM!

meh,

it's ok.......but these guys got waaaaaay better on all future releases. the sound here is more technical, which i generally like, but something just doesn't do it for me for this cd. the vocals are borderline terrible too. i mean, matt always screams so hard you can't tell what the hell is saying, but his vocals became much more powerful and refined on releases after this one. his later lyrics are much more powerfull as well. overall, i recommend getting the newest album or the 2 ep's before this one. in fact, get any converge album, hot damn by every time i die, miss machine by dillinger, we are the romans by botch, or until your heart stops by cave in before you get this for crazy, freakout hardcore. hell, i would recommend dozens of albums of many different genres before recommending this album. maybe i don't get this particular album, but this is medicore at best.

Before artsy "thinking man's" hardcore got popular, Curl Up and Die where playing high brow charged music that many fakers try to imitate. This is chaotic, relentless music with an artistic ting, it makes you realize that this is indeed... awesome! I couldn't believe how good this was when I listened to it, I didn't think it'd especially blow my mind, I thought they would be decent and they'd be a lesser lame version of Fear Before the March of Lames. But as the time listening to this record progressed, I realized, this is authentic awesomeness and not some pretensious guys who took a few classes in junior college acting all "intellectual". I must detract from my praise fest to address the next "big" thing, "thinking man's" music, I must say it's deplorable and I do not care much for it at all. This kinda "hardcore" is mostly snot nosed kids playing 30 second songs and convincing themselves that they are performing the "antithesis" to the norm, when in fact they are merely playing boring 30 second songs that sound like crap. But it's just so post-modern guys! It's not music, it's noise and it's not entertaining noise, it sounds like a little kid playing with a keyboard... yuck! As for Curl Up and Die, they are good music and unfortunalty they aren't robots, cause if they were I'm sure their sole purpose of existance would be making music for us and... well they aren't, too bad!

...This album is awesome. I was first attracted to it by the funny song titles (Ted Nugent Goes AOL and the 'catchy' Dr Doom, A Man Of Science, Doesn't Believe In Jesus..) and heard said tracks, and I was hooked. The musicianship is as masterful as anything by Drowningman and the like, but their almost comical air (especially in the first four tracks - pure bleak satire) is just breathtaking...

AREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL DEEEEEEEEAD! Yes I just typed the first 4 songs! This is a VERY experimental and very incredible technical metalcore band and some people think the vocals are too repetitive but well if it ain't broke why fix it? You should get this if you are a fan of bands like converge, DEP, bleeding through, botch, older cave in, and bands like that or even if you don't like those bands buy this album anyway, it is FENOMENAL!(in espanol)

Robots are our friends. That is the message that I take away from this CD. I was hoping for more hypnotic sounds and less rah rah shah shah. but hey....i still danced and it does help enhance a big bowl of cereal.jack e. jett |
