More About the Author

Hi there, my name is Carolyn Wolfe and I am an Free-lance writer and Author of six books. My sixth book, a children's book titled "The Unhappy Little Dragon, Lessons Learned," was released this past Nov 2011. It is the complete story of Happy the dragon and all about his adventures and misadventures. I also write short fantasy stories, and poetry for a general readership and write articles for a local Newspaper in my area "The Old Town Compass" as well as Free-lance for other local newspapers.
I have two concurrent new projects I am working on, one is a short fantasy story for a new anthology that will be published in March 2013. I am one of eight woman authors contributing to this book whose overall theme is that the stories are connected to the Traditional Celtic Holidays. I will be adding more information as the publishing date approaches. I am also completing a new children's story "The Drowsy House" with illustrations by a very talented artist- Rosemarie Gillen.
I very much enjoy writing for children and have had two wonderful illustrators, Leslie Mathis, and Rosemarie Gillen. Both of these wonderful artists have really made my stories come alive.

A little about my background, Although I am American, I was born in England just outside of London. My parents returned to America when I was just a baby and I enjoy dual citizenship which delights me.
I grew up reading stories about "Noddy and Big Thumb", among other British classics for children, and it has been commented that my style of writing reflects a little of my British background. I would like to think so!

I am currently living in Winchester, VA with my husband Scott and many animal companions. My website address is www.whenthemoonspeaks.com for more info!

Although I enjoy writing for children, I also have published two books of poetry, "When The Moon Speaks" and "Notes From The Shadow Self" written for a general audience and another book, "The Moonsparrow Collection" which is a collection of my short fantasy stories.

I want to welcome you to my page and invite you to take a peek at my books. I do hope you will enjoy them.

What's not to love with this book! The premise of the story seemed so cute, a dragon who couldn't control his fire, I just had to read the story.

Happy the Little Dragon has a special gift, the gift of fire. Thing is Happy doesn't know how to control it, which cause Happy to wonder why his parents gave him the name of Happy because often he is unhappy. Even though he has had a few mishaps such as burning the ruler right out of teachers hand, or burning his mother's apron right off of her, its when he ruins a special dinner with relatives that he runs away into the forest. As he goes on his journey he meets many special friends, and learns that each of his new animal friends also have special gifts.
What I quickly learned was there was so much more than just a cute story, instead there is a valuable lesson that youngsters need to know woven into the pages of the story. The story flows well and the colorful illustrations will immediately draw a young reader right in.
A great little book filled with Happy and his animal friends that is perfect for young readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful lesson Learning May 16, 2012

Format:Paperback
Our boys loved this delightful book. The story revolves around a young [8 season old] dragon, who has a major problem...he can't control his fire. No matter how hard he tries Happy has accidents!
The kids thought it was quite funny when he burned up the teacher's ruler! They also felt bad when he had a major accident at a big family party.
The boys loved learning about the other animals in the forest and understanding what gifts God had given to them. A very thought provoking read, and it helped them to think about what gifts they have.
I think this will be a book we will be reading again and again, and exploring it a bit deeper.

Thanks so much to the author Carolyn Wolfe and Pump Virtual Tours for the copy of the book, I was not required to give a positive review.

5.0 out of 5 stars The UnHappy Little Dragon May 8, 2012
Format:Paperback
What would happen if you couldn't control your fire? Well that is if you were a dragon. This is a serious problem Little Dragon had to deal with. Once after being so frustrated, Little Dragon ran into the woods, just to get away. He ran and ran. And ran. While in the forest, he started meeting friends. First it was Shelley the turtle, then Betty the bird, then Barney the beaver, and on it goes. Each of Little Dragon's new friends loved his fire, and encouraging him, telling his it was his gift. As with Little Dragon's gift, the other forest friend each had their own special gift that they shared. Read this wonderful book and take a trip to this forest of gifted friends.

In "The UnHappy Little Dragon," Carolyn Wolfe writes a wonderful story to teach young readers that they are special, no matter how different they are. Using the animals in the forest helps teach children to feel differently about their fears and disappointments. Carolyn Wolfe has a special gift herself in writing stories like this to teach valuable lessons to her young readers. And the illustrations are adorable. The Little Dragon and the forest animals have a sweet childish personality, with colors that invite you in the pages. I highly recommend that you grab a copy of this beautifully written and illustrated book to read to your child.

This book was provided by PUYB for me to read and review. I was not required or expected to write a positive review. The opinions in this review are mine only.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Story About Self Worth! May 7, 2012
Format:Paperback
This story is filled with great messages children will be able to relate to. Sometimes children don't realize their gifts until someone brings it to their attention. In this case, Happy is sad because he keeps having accidents. His problem is that he can't control his fire. But friends from the forest teach Happy about their gifts and in turn also teach him about his. He soon realizes that everyone has some type of gift that makes them special, even if they can't see it themselves. This is a great 38 page story that children 8 and up will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lessons Learned! Must Read! May 3, 2012
Format:Paperback
This is a fantasy about a little dragon that had a problem, not a little problem a big problem. At inappropriate times Little Dragon would open his mouth and fire would come out. He just couldn't seem to control it. After another episode of uncontrolled fire which caused much damage at a family reunion he ran from the house into the forest. He ran until he was too tired to run anymore. He was so tired he laid down and fell asleep. When he awoke he found a turtle watching him. After Little Dragon explained to the turtle why he was so far from home they became friends and ventured into the forest and and made many more friends. Each one complimenting him on his amazing gift then sharing that they also had their own gift.

The author put to paper the fear, nervousness and lack of self esteem Little Dragon had in himself and his gift of fire. It also shows he had shame and embarrassment over his gift. With encouragement from friends and family he felt much better about himself.

The illustrations depicted the tale in a colorful way that made the words dance off the pages.

I highly recommend this book.
