5.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately there will be no more...
I am an adult and enjoyed this series a lot. The only thing I can complain about is that Mary Stanton used some characters and places from her book Piper at the Gate. It ruined the series for me a little. Unfortunately there will be no more books, Scholastic was no interested in continuing the series. If you want to read more about the author, visit her website...

3.0 out of 5 stars My daughter is delighted...
I've read the entire Unicorns of Balinor series for my daughter--who is on the cusp of 7. She has been delighted with the ongoing storyline--and in our household, Arianna, Chase, Linc, Atalanta, the Shifter, and Kraken have become familiar names. This particular book grabbed her right away, with its idyllic beginning, its growing threat, and its satisfying but...

5.0 out of 5 stars Is This Really the End?, July 20, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Unicorns Of Balinor #08: Shadows Over Balinor (Paperback)
I followed these books one right after the other. I would stand outside a closed book store the day a new one would come out, just so I could find out what happened to Ari and Chase. I never read much until I found the first two books on a bookshelf while browsing a bookstore. These books have encouraged me to read more, and at higher levels. I really hope that this isn't the end to the series because it all ended way to fast. Please write another. T.H.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Series, August 18, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Unicorns Of Balinor #08: Shadows Over Balinor (Paperback)
I absolutly loved the series. I really really think that Mary Stanton should write a 9th and maybe even a 10th book in the series of Unicorns of Balinor. I would love to know when and how Arianna found her parents and whether Lori stayed in Balinor or went home. I think that she should stay in my opinion, because even though is a pain in the neck she does come in handy sometimes. I love the series because it is full of adventure and mystery and you can NEVER put the book down. I am in 8th grade and I think that this a a great series!!

4.0 out of 5 stars From a 13 year old fan, June 29, 2002

I may be thirteen, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy books below my level. The only reason I rated this four stars was because I think the stories could have been longer. I have read the whole series and loved them. I hope a ninth book come out because there are so many things about Ari's parents we don't know about yet. I have read them many times and do so whenever I need to read a good book.

My son and I have read all 8 of this series and am anxiously waiting for number 9. The characters are wonderful (even the nasty ones) The only problem with this exciting adventurous story is being left wanting more and there aren't any. Don't read if you can't stand to be left hanging!!

I've read all of the books in the series, but this is the best by far! I just wish Ms. Stanton would continue with the series! If you haven't read this book or any of the series, What's wrong with you?! It was a wonderful book.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Unicorns Of Balinor #08: Shadows Over Balinor (Paperback)
The Unicorns of Balinor is a really great series. Though I read them quickly, they're really cool. But I wish the series would come out with a 9th book!!!! #8 is too much of a cliffhanger!!!! What happens to ari? everyone wants to know!!! soon!!! But for those who haven't read eight yet, I recommend it!!! p.s. if you loved these books i recommend tamora pierce's books too

I've read the entire Unicorns of Balinor series for my daughter--who is on the cusp of 7. She has been delighted with the ongoing storyline--and in our household, Arianna, Chase, Linc, Atalanta, the Shifter, and Kraken have become familiar names. This particular book grabbed her right away, with its idyllic beginning, its growing threat, and its satisfying but inconclusive ending. As a parent, I've been a little less delighted by the series because--as becomes readily apparent when the books are read aloud--the writing is carelessly ungrammatical. In addition, the writing can be clunky, and the characterization tends to be pretty simplistic and shallow--fine for a 6-year old, but I wonder about its intended audience (11-12 year-olds, I believe). Still, the book kept my daughter's attention, and fuelled her imagination--both fine attributes. She is looking forward to another in the series.
