ANL Switch and Squelch Control

While communicating, flip on the ANL (automatic noise limiter) to help eliminate background noise, such as that from the car engine/etc. The squelch control also assists with eliminating noise, allowing you to set a threshold level below which noise won't be heard.

Full 40 Channel Operation

The Pro510XL will operate on any of the 40 AM frequencies authorized by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). A superheterodyne circuit with phase locked loop technology assures precise frequency control.

Very good sound from the speaker.

It's small enough that I mounted it in the center console of my 2013 Wrangler, neat and clean install!

I needed a good cheap CB Radio and this was my choice.

I am partial to Uniden anyway, however this CB is great for a first time user or as a back up to a more expensive unit. I have been using CB for about 10 years and I always make sure I have a Uniden 510 available for a back up, or use it in a second car. It has superior range when used with a good antenna and the received audio is decent. I would suggest using an external speaker unless you have a super quiet vehicle. The anl switch cuts through static really well to improve reception, although it sometimes dulls out the audio of the person you are trying to hear. You can use it with a cigarette lighter plug with an adapter from radio shack for a few dollars. They will even show you how to hook it up. It all boils down to being a great CB at a great price. Remember a simple rule of thumb... An inexpensive CB on a good antenna will perform just as well as a high-end CB on a cheap antenna. Don't forget to tune your antenna and have fun!

Some off-roading friends of mine recommended, as a first time CB user, for me to buy this Uniden along with a good antenna. They were right, it is a spectacular radio and it appears the price on Amazon was the best around. They use 510 XLs for off-roading with ± a mile or so between them on the trails.

Fresh out of the box, the quality of this Uniden is clear - clean, solid metal construction with robust knobs and cable connections. Bright LEDs on-screen, good squelch control, and clear led level indications as well. On the back, there is a connector for the antenna, red/black for power (with in-line fuseholder and fuse) and then an extra port for a Uniden external speaker. I would recommend the speaker for folks who mount the CB down low. I have mine mounted overhead so the 510 XL's built-in speaker fires down at us passengers... it is plenty loud enough for me in my diesel pickup and I don't even have to turn it up half way. But if you have yours mounted down low, the carpet may absorb the sound which makes the external speaker worthwhile - and they are not expensive at all.

I plugged in the Uniden Pro 510XL unit in with a Wilson 1000 Mag mount base loaded antenna. The antenna is on my crew cab pickup roof, which makes for an excellent ground plane. Out of the box, I was up and running the first day I hooked it up. I could hear some conversations quite clearly, seemingly better than a clear telephone conversation. Of course, there is always chatter and conversations in-between folks talking if you are monitoring busy channels.

Like any CB unit, the antenna (or antennas) makes all the difference.

I have two of these and they've taken a beating for 4 years. One has been in my Jeep CJ-7 that is mostly driven offroad. The Jeep shakes, rattles (haven't rolled it yet) and the CB works like new. The speaker is also very loud which is nice when the top of the Jeep is off. The other CB is in a work pickup and has been flawless as well, it's mounted on a flimsy ash tray that causes it to vibrate all the time (which can't be good for it).

Just make sure to tune your antenna with a meter otherwise you pose the chance of ruining the CB.

I HAVE USED SEVERAL CB RADIOS BUT THIS ONE IS VERY GOOD FOR THE PRICE. IV'E USED THE Galaxy DX-939 A BUNCH AND THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE GALAXY JUST HAS A BUNCH OF BELLS AND WHISTLES AND THIS CB IS JUST A PLAIN BEAT AROUND COMPACT CB RADIO. I HAVE THIS MOUNTED ON MY FOUR WHEELER IN A ARMY AMMO CAN. I HAVE IT RUN TO MY 2 FT ROAD-PRO FIBER GLASS ANTENNA WITH TIMES MICROWAVE 4 FT 400 HMR CABLE. I'M PUTTING OUT 8 WATTS POWER. A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS BUT WHEN YOU BUY THIS RADIO, BEFORE YOU MOUNT IT, TAKE THE FOUR SCREWS OUT ON EACH SIDE. INSIDE YOU WILL FIND THE MICRO-BOARD. IN THE MIDDLE YOU WILL FIND 3 NOBS. THEY ADJUST YOUR OUTPUT POWER OVER THE NORMAL 4 WATTS LIMIT WITCH PREVENTS YOU FROM HAVING TO BUY AN AMP. THE FIRST NOB IS RF POWER, THE SECOND RF GAIN, AND THE LAST IS YOUR FINE TOON SQUELCH. SO IF YOU BUY THIS RADIO, MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS TURN ALL OF THEM ALL THE WAY CLOCKWISE AND THAT'S IT. DON'T WORRY ABOUT BREAKING IT ITS SO EASY TO DO IT. ALL YOU NEED IS A PHILIPS SCREWDRIVER. POINT IS, IF YOU ARE NOT A TRUCKER, ALL YOU NEED IS THIS, BUY THIS RADIO!

Just purchased 2 of them-spent some time installing into a jeep YJ. With a Firestik 4' antenna-broadcasting (Cobra CB in another jeep for listening) the 'sending' quality was great-crystal clear and no muffling. However, RECIEVING was terrible. Sound was low bass and very muffled. Tried both CB's in one jeep, swapped antennas, etc. to make sure it wasn't one or the other. Both units had the same cheap speaker quality, both sent perfectly.
You could hear and understand what was recieved but very poorly. For offroading with the top down and engine revving, probably would be hard to hear. But...there is a built in jack for external speakers so we are going to wire it to the dash radio speakers. (there is no radio, so why not!) and that should take care of it. The second one is going in a 2003 jeep rubicon, and I will have a spare speaker for that. Probably $2.99 at Radio shack to get the jack plugs and it will be done!
