Pretty good features, so-so voice quality,
By
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. (Office Product)
I bought this particular phone because it was the only one that has all of the features I needed for my home office phone -- voicemail indicator, belt clip, earphone jack, speakerphone -- as well as the usual things like speed dialing and Caller ID. (I was surprised at how few phones come without answering machines now.) This phone was easy to set up and program. The handsets can send copies of speed dial numbers to each other. It's also a nice-looking phone that doesn't take up much space on the desk. The microphone in the handset is not very good. My voice sounds overmodulated to people I'm talking with. I usually use a headset, though, so that's not a huge issue for me. One very strange thing I have discovered is that the Caller ID on this phone does not interface with the programmed numbers, so if someone who's in my list of speed dial numbers calls me, their name is not displayed. I've never had a phone that did not recognize programmed numbers, so I find this very strange. I contacted Uniden about it, and they say this is the normal operation for this phone. This is probably the biggest con from my point of view, because my coworkers are all at another location, and I would like to be able to greet them by name when I answer the phone. It's not enough to make me take back the phone, because this is still the only phone that has all of the other features I want. But I do find it very strange that any phone would not have this feature. I always thought it was standard. Everything else about it appears to work well.

I needed something to replace the old V-tech cordless phone system in our home. Since we have Voice Mail provided by the local telephone company, I did not need an answering system. The clarity of the phone is great. I have lots of wireless electronics in my home and have found zero interference. I like that the buttons are lit. I am not a fan of the orange color, but it is something I can live with. The handsets are comfortable and buttons are easy to use. The only thing I would have liked was for the base to have controls on it. I used that a lot when the old phone was not in its cradle and I could not find it in time to answer a call. I have already expanded my system to 4 handsets and can place them anywhere in my home without worrying about where the phone jacks are.

FINALLY, a phone that does it all!,

This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. (Office Product)
I did extensive research on cordless phones when my old Panasonc 5.8GH finally died. I tried and tested quite a few but always ended up returning them for one reason or another. Then I found the Uniden DECT 2060-2 6.0 GH model. It had everything I needed. I did not want an answering machine and that is hard to find these days. It has small, well lit and comfortable handsets, a soft, easy to use keypad, incrediable clarity and range. There's also fun ringtones, a phonebook, speakerphone, message waiting indicator, caller ID, redial, intercom, headset compatible and it's expandable. I also needed to be able to hang the base on the wall which is almost impossible to find. I've had this system for about 6 months and have never had a problem with low batteries or being out of range. No problems at all and I plan to purchase additional handsets. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone in the market for a new cordless!

Great for Telco Voicemail,
By
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. (Office Product)
I have voicemail from my telephone company, and I don't want an answering machine. These Uniden handsets include a voicemail LED that works with the stutter-dialtone voicemail indicator from the telco. It's exactly what I was looking for.
One of the reviews above claims that Caller ID doesn't try to match numbers programmed in the phonebook. My handsets definitely match numbers in the phonebook, and you can even program a distinctive ringtone based on the matched number (the handsets have 7 ringtones available). Audio quality is good -- better than I'm used to, but I was previously using 2.4GHz phones in a house with WiFi, so my expectations were set pretty low. Speaking of 2.4GHz, I never have any interference on these DECT phones, from either WiFi or the microwave oven; I expected there wouldn't be interference, but was glad to confirm it. The wireless range from handset to base is good for my needs, but I'm seldom more than 30 ft from the base. Something that isn't mentioned in the description of the phones is that each handset can be paired with more than one base. I have two phone lines, and my previous phone system could use both lines from every handset. I had trouble finding two-line DECT phones with similar features to my old system (voicemail indicator, no answering machine, etc), so I rigged up something similar with these Unidens. I bought two sets of 2060-2, getting two bases and four handsets. I plugged one base into line #1, and the other base into line #2. After a bit of playing around, I got all four handsets paired with both bases. I have to manually switch between bases to pick which phone line I want (which is easy, but not automatic), but it gets me what I need: the ability to use either line from any handset in the house. Pretty much the only difference for me between this and my old 2.4GHz Panasonic system is that each handset only rings for the base it's currently connected to; a real two-line phone will ring every handset for calls on either phone line. Talk time is good: at least three hours without running out the battery. While trying out phones, I compared these with a Panasonic DECT system. The Panasonic claimed 12 hours of talk time, which would be great, but the Panasonic phones didn't meet my needs for other reasons. I did appreciate that the batteries in the Panasonic phones were basically just rechargeable NiMH AAA, nothing special. These Unidens use a battery pack that's the same size as a pair of AAA batteries, but with a pigtail connector and wrapped in a plastic sleeve. Not a big deal, but the Panasonic idea seemed like a good one to me. These Unidens are fairly unobtrusive. The small (non-base-station) chargers have a red LED on them but nothing that glows really bright in a bedroom at night. The base-stations have very bright red LEDs on them, so I didn't put a base in the bedroom. Another reason I didn't choose the Panasonics is that they had no way to turn off the backlight on their color screen, and they lit up a darkened room like bright blue candles. Last thing -- a feature hidden in the user manual: when you want to return a call for a number via Caller ID, if you're in an area where you have to dial "1" before the number outside your area code, press the "*" key first. "*" will prepend "1" to the number before dialing. Before I found this feature, I was a little disappointed; now I'm 100% happy with these phones.

This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. (Office Product)
I just purchased this system and so far I must say it's excellent. I'm very happy with all the features...they're very easy to use. I love that this one doesn't have an answering machine, as we have voice mail. I can't believe how hard it was to find one without the answering machine.
I have to make a comment about one of the other reviews. The one that says: "One very strange thing I have discovered is that the Caller ID on this phone does not interface with the programmed numbers, so if someone who's in my list of speed dial numbers calls me, their name is not displayed." There is an option in the setup called "CID/Phonebook Match" which does exactly that...matches the caller ID to your phonebook entry and that name is displayed. Maybe this is a new feature, but it's definitely there on the system I just purchased. Also, I purchased two additional handsets to add to the system. It was very simple to sync everything to work together. Now we have four phones that all work the same and all have the same phonebook entries. Very convenient! As I said, I think this is an excellent system and well worth the money.

I bought this as well as aonther handset.
Within 2 months, all 3 of the phones were dysfunctional in the same exact area. The 4-way navigational button that lets you look at your caller id, saved numbers, and also lets you control the volume no longer work...on all three phones! So, yeah, I'd say staying away from these would be the best bet.

This phone has a lot of nice features for the price point. A little light in the hand I like a phone with a little weight to it. Incoming voice sounds clear but it gets a lot of echo to it when you speak also I get some vibration in the ear piece. I've been using it only a couple of days but I am going to bring it back because the echo is just so prominent.

Faulty Button Design,
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. (Office Product)
I've owned this base unit with two additional handsets for about a year and a half, and the middle button, which sets volume and accesses caller ID, has stopped functioning. I can no longer change volume, cycle through menu commands, and access caller ID for these two phones. I've contacted Uniden customer service through their web interface and received a canned message stating that they will only offer replacement up to a year, and after that a 10% discount. Since I had the problem on two phones, I have concluded that they were poorly designed, and have elected to purchase an entirely different DECT system (from a different manufacturer). Its too bad, because otherwise this was a great handset with an unmatched feature set, though the overall range wasn't that great.

Did not live up to the reviews for me.,

I bought this phone based on reviews here. It functions as explained, however:
The earphone is very tiny and very hard to hear out of (even with the volume turned up) Even though it claims "no interference" there were a lot of times that the person I was talking to did not hear anything I said. The incoming voice was clear (when I could hear it) but if I tried to talk, whole sentences would just disappear. The ringer on the second base is delayed - I understand why, but with our phone service we only get 3 rings before it sends to voice mail, so if I was not near the main phone and base I would miss the call. The assigned ring tones also seemed to cause a delay. (That's just a frill so I turned it off.) The user interface for storing numbers was very clumsy and frustrating. I think someone mentioned that it does not recognize incoming numbers that are stored in your phone book. It does come with a belt clip and earphone jack, but the phone is very lightweight and I was afraid to drop it because the clip is cheesy. There is no way to lock the keypad and put it in your pocket. I'm going back to a 5.8Ghz phone - I have been using 2 of them in the house for years and it has not caused a problem. |
