5.0 out of 5 stars NICE PHONE

I agree with most of what "DTFFX" wrote in his 10/27/09 review, he was very thorough, and I can't comment on things like his distance claim or his battery concern for which I don't have any experience. This is a nice phone that has a lot of features, many features that can be turned on or off for that custom set-up. I turned off the speaking feature which I didn't...

I agree with most of what "DTFFX" wrote in his 10/27/09 review, he was very thorough, and I can't comment on things like his distance claim or his battery concern for which I don't have any experience. This is a nice phone that has a lot of features, many features that can be turned on or off for that custom set-up. I turned off the speaking feature which I didn't care for.

One Con for me is the Talk Button. On the base unit, it turns the speakerphone on and off. On the handset it connects and disconnects the phone, but has a speaker button for the speakerphone on the handset. This is a little confusing for my 85 year old mother who uses the phone. I think the talk button on the base unit should simply be labeled speaker like the cordless handset. The base connects and disconnects by just picking up or hanging up the corded handset.

I am very pleased with this phone and would recommend it to anybody. I was looking for a corded base that operates during power failures, and this phone looked like the best in this price range.

I am on the phone for several hours every day, and need my hands free to type. Since headsets give me headaches, I use the speakerphone. On my old Uniden 5.8 GHz, I was constantly asking the person on the other line to repeat themselves.

When my old Uniden finally started to crap out on me, I ordered this one to replace it, thinking that I would finally be able to clearly hear the person I was on the phone with. I was disappointed...

Both the base and portable handset have talking caller ID, which announces (in a hilariously mispronounced way), the name of the person calling. Turning the volume down on the ringer turns the volume down on the talking caller ID, so if you have the ringer volume turned down, you can't hear the talking caller ID.

***I wish the volume of the talking caller ID were separate from the ringer volume, and I wish I could turn the ringer off completely, and still have the talking caller ID work.***

On the portable handset, you can choose different ring tones for different people in your phone book (there are 7 choices of ringer). However, that is not the case with the base. On the base, you pick one of 5 ring tones, and all calls have that ring.

***I wish the base had more ring tones and the ability to choose a personal ring tones for the people in your phone book.***

There's not an easy call block feature. What I ended up doing is adding the telemarketer I wanted to block to my phone book, and choosing their personal ring as "silent." The portable handset still lights up when they call, but it doesn't ring on the handset. It does however, still ring on the base, unless I just turn the ringer on the base completely off for all incoming calls.

***I wish this phone had a call block feature.***

The speaker-phone on the base is pretty awesome. It's loud and clear! Unfortunately, the person I'm on the phone with can't hear me.

The "boost" function doesn't work on the portable handset's speaker phone. So... it's not any louder or clearer than my old Uniden phone. This made me very sad, because this is the whole reason I chose this particular phone.

***I wish the speaker-phone on the handset were louder.***

I really like how bright the display, numbers, and talk button is. It's very easy to dial the pizza delivery, when you're sitting in the dark, watching a movie.

The mute button has been improved, to one button now, instead of having to push 2 buttons on the old Uniden handset. It's much easier to hit that button, before you sneeze in someones ear now!

To summarize, there are a lot of features that I like on this phone, but there's an awful lot that I wish they'd improve too.

I purchased this for my 86 year-old mother who has trouble whenever she gets on the phone. She is always taking the hearing aids out or putting them in. Finally I can call mom and she can hear who is on the line and doesn't have to fool with her hearing aids! Yeah! I highly recommend this purchase for the hard of hearing and the elderly. Something I wasn't expecting was that the phone actually has a blinking light when the phone is ringing.

I got this phone for my elderly parents, after there cordless phone of almost a decade finally died. I was shocked just how load the handsets got. YIKES! boost is LOUD. Mom and Dad loved it and that's what counts. I quickly had all there speed dial numbers set in the base and sent auto-magically to the cordless (I've been waiting for this function for 10 years).

the only part that is tripping them up is the different functions between the cordless and the corded base. The big yellow button labeled "Talk" seems to be a small problem.

"Talk" button on the cordless....answers and hangs up the phone
"Talk" button on the base........Turns on and off the speakerphone

easy for me but has proven tough for them.

I'd definitely buy another one

I wear a hearing aid, and this phone has been a blessing. It rings loud and clear, and also flashes! It's very easy to add phone numbers into the phonebook. I love being able to update the phonebook on both the corded and cordless phones. Both phones also come with the speakerphone feature, and can play back messages on both phones!! The Caller ID is also included and also be added to the phonebook. Hubby and I sometimes have difficulty reading the little display, but we have low vision problems. Maybe in the upgrade Uniden could add more backlighting in the visual display. We also love the "Do Not Disturb" feature. You won't hear the message or your announcement when calls come in. You will hear a short beep ever few seconds to alert you of a message that was left. They also come with the "Mute" button. Our older Uniden phone didn't have this feature. You can also purchase additional cordless phones for other rooms.

I have been looking for a phone for my elderly parents. This one works perfectly for them, and I like it so much that I decided to get one for myself. I bought mine at Walmart for $75! It offers three different tones.......one which is designed for hearing aide wearers! I couldn't be more satisfied!! Best phone ever!

1.0 out of 5 stars Had to return this phone, June 17, 2010
This review is from: Uniden Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System with Cordless Handset (CEZAi2998) (Office Product)
Could not store incoming CID numbers to my directory, so I called Uniden to see what I was doing wrong and the person who answered my call at Uniden was clueless and told me that I had to store all phone numbers to my directory manually. Then, after owning the phone for about six weeks, the phone just died and the phone had no power, could not make any outgoing calls or take any incoming calls, what's more is that when I had this phone plugged into the jack, it would give a busy signal to people calling in. After calling the phone company, I found out the problem was with the phone. The quality of the phone is terrible and the customer service was worse. Luckily, Best Buy was willing to take this phone back for an exchange. No more phones from Uniden.

I just purchased this phone, and, after following all procedures precisely, the handset would not register. I called both customer service numbers and neither was functioning, "Due to circumstances beyond our control." The website support is useless, just repeating the instructions in the manual that I had already tried 7 times. The base phone works fine, but if it ever malfunctions you might as well throw it away because you will get no support from Uniden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for hearing impaired, August 28, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System with Cordless Handset (CEZAi2998) (Office Product)
I am hearing impaired and, until now, have been unable to find a hearing impaired phone with the capability of adding stations in other parts of my home. This phone has that capability, plus it has a "boost" option to increase the volume beyond the highest setting. Wow! What a difference that "boost" made. I can now hear so much better. I prefer to remove my hearing aid when talking on the phone, and, with this phone, I can hear just fine without my hearing aid. I'm really pleased with it, and it was a cinch to hook up and program. Love it!
