5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Phone - Great Reception!
I purchased this phone in August and I've really enjoyed this phone so far. I went through 2 other 5.8GHZ phones(Uniden TRU & Panasonic) that didn't get good reception at all in my house before I found the DECT technology. The DECT 2080-2 has excellent sound clarity. I can walk outside or into my garage without a problem which I couldn't do with the 5.8Ghz phones...

I can walk outside or into my garage without a problem which I couldn't do with the 5.8Ghz phones.

If you are familiar with the Uniden brand of phones, this phone has some of the same features. Caller ID is easy to read the phone number and name of caller. Speakerphone is loud and clear. I choose the 2080-2 because the handset does light up when you use the phone which I find to be very useful at night. The phone is limited on ring tones - only 7. I'd like a bigger selection but I can live with it.

We haven't experienced any of the "Out of Range" problems like over reviews have stated. We had that problem with our 5.8GHz but not the DECT.

Answering machine is simple to set-up and use. Messages are clear and easy to pick up. For this price, I would definitely recommend you buy!

Added August 2010 - 3 years later this phone is still working great for us. We still love it.

Sure, this phone has good battery life, but that's about it.

This phone is starting to say "out of range" with more and more frequency. When it says "out of range," you have to hit the 'talk' button to reconnect. It can take up to five seconds or longer to reconnect the call. At first I thought it was the 2.4 Ghz WiFi (this phone claims "no interference"), but this phone will go out of range even when the WiFi is turned off! This is not an anomaly either. My friend has this exact same phone and it does the exact same thing. When the phone says out of range it isn't really out of range. It goes out of range when the base is only a few feet away. This is totally unacceptable.

If this phone didn't have the "out of range" error, the many quirks this phone has might be a little more tolerable. For instance, if you dial a number from caller ID and it's from a different area code than the one you're in, you have to hit the 'tone' button to place a '1' ahead of the area code. If you don't do this, your call will not be completed. Many other companies have figured a way around this, the greatest problem of the 21st century, but Uniden can not. This is very silly.

The sounds quality is very inconsistent. People say my voice cuts in and out from time to time. My friend's voice sounds warbly and the call seems to originate from 10 ATM underwater. This phone is truly awful. I think the previous iteration of the Uniden Dect 6.0 (1080-X) was a little better. I guess with Uniden, no back lit keypad equates to better sound quality.

When you redial a number and it's busy, you have to hit the red 'off' button, hit the redial button again, and then hit the green 'talk' button for it to dial. If this phone was engineered properly, all one would have to do is hit the green 'talk' button to reset the busy signal to a dial tone, and then hit the 'redial' button. The phone would then proceed to dial the redialed number. If you try it on this phone, the number you want to redial appears on the display and the dial tone is heard, but it does not dial the call! The morons at Uniden are not thinking logically. Panasonic figured out this redial procedure.

When the battery needs charging, the stupid thing beeps every five seconds. Every five seconds. The Panasonic I reviewed in the past beeped every minute and a half, and that was too persistent. The Uniden 1080-X didn't beep every five seconds.

There are other weird things about this phone, but this review is too long already.

If you want a hassle free, simplified operation, clear sound quality, and a phone that actually works as advertised, this monstrosity is not for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uniden Dect 6 Cordless Digital, December 2, 2007

This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle (Office Product)
I have had this phone for little over a month and it has worked extremely well. The answer system shows the number of messages and gives a warning signal, plus it is very clear. Calling and receiving calls are very clear and loud enough. There is not WiFi interference. I have not noticed any range problems when outside. I spent alot of time reading reviews and felt this was going to be a good product and so far I have been very satisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall quite satisfied, minor gripes, April 14, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle (Office Product)
I purchased this phone/answering combo with some fear of interfering with my wifi (802.11g ~2.4 GHz) and home security system. I have been using the phone for about a week now and I'm happy to say that I am not having any issues with interference in any of my systems, phone included.

Physically, the screen is easy for me to read, the buttons feel good and offer a good response, the call and hang up buttons are large and colored green and red, and the headset feels good in my head. Call quality is clear and the volume is loud enough without having to be turned up all the way.

Software wise, the interface is pretty good. One minor disappointment was managing the caller-id. The two phone's don't communicate with each other in terms of caller-id history (not sure if any do though). Also, it's a two button sequence to check the first caller-id history rather than one.

Overall I'm satisfied with my purchase and I would gladly recommend this product to a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 23, 2008

We had to purchase new phones because the batteries in our previous phones would not charge correctly and the manufacturer no longer made them. So far, we are thrilled with the Uniden. I have yet to out talk the battery. The answering system works well and is easily accessed from the remote phone. We have VOI phone through Verizon and are not happy with their voicemail services, and this phone is perfect, especially for the price.
I wish it had a few more ring tones so I could assign them to different people, but that is such a minor issue.

I recommend purchasing this phone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great phone for great price, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle (Office Product)
I bought this phone for x-mas and so far I love it. Sound quality is great. No interference with other electronics (which has always been a big problem for me). I have a baby monitor that it was always interfering with. This phone comes with so many neat options. The speaker phone sounds great as well, not like you're in a tunnel. Love Love Love this phone.

We have purchased many phones only to be disappointed by short battery life and static. Uniden has solved the problems! The Dect 6.0 phones are worth every penny. The phone is clear as a bell, excellent range and unbelievable battery life. The bells and whistles add additional assets. It is like having the features of a cell phone on the land line. Thank you, Uniden!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but could be much better, November 9, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle (Office Product)
This system works well and has many nice features. The battery charge duration is good. The bright LED message counter on the base is much better that the LCDs others use. Conversations are clear. Where I use it, the phone has almost as long a range as a 900mhz phone.

But there are a few annoyances. The very first time I used it, it cut off in the middle of a call and said it was out of range, when the handset was less that 10 feet from the base unit. That hasn't happened again, and I've had it for about 3 weeks. The silver finish looks tacky when it's new and I dread what it's going to look like when it's been banged around. The menus are not as user-friendly or as well thought out as Panasonic's menus. It takes three actions to delete a single call history, but it is easy to delete them all at once. You can't edit the phonebook names or numbers in place, you can only backspace to the place that needs correction and retype everything from there on. Remote control commands are 2-digit numbers but there are only 8 commands.

The biggest annoyances are that when a call comes in from someone that's in the phonebook, the phone does not display the name that's in the phonebook, even though it will use the ring tone. It displays the caller ID instead, which for me is usually "CELL PHONE". Note also that this feature causes a delay in the time it takes for the phone to start ringing. The orange backlights on the handsets come on as soon as the call starts ringing, but there is no sound until the caller ID is received and the phonebook checked. So most callers hear two rings before you hear anything.

You're supposed to be able to extend your range by using up to 6 base stations, but base stations don't seem to be sold separately. If the manual is correct and only series 2000 base stations may be used, then the only way to buy one is to buy a package with at least two more handsets as well.

Just bought this system and love it. Very clear, love the handset speaker phone, the phonebook was super easy to set up. I've not experienced any interference with this unit. Replaced an AT&T 622 system with this unit. Very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars This phone system is not perfect, but it's as good as it gets, April 18, 2008
This review is from: Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle (Office Product)
I read all the reviews re: various phone systems on Amazon before proceeding to buy this one. Basically there does not appear to be a "perfect" system out there. After using this one for a month now, I think it's pretty much as good as it gets. Pros: good sound quality, no reception problem, long battery life, it beeps to tell you've got a message, phone books, caller ID retrievals etc. all work well. Little things that make this phone imperfect: caller ID does not have a "1" in front of it (to store a caller ID no. onto your phone book, you have to press "*" first to add a "1" in front of the numbers, and then press "menu" to go through the storing process"). You can retrieve messages on any handset, but you can't delete a message except at the base unit. When you store numbers onto the phone book on one handset, you have to pair the information with other handsets, ONE AT A TIME, now why won't they give you an option of pairing it to "ALL"?
